Effective advising is the ability to engage students in a variety of ways resulting in establishing a positive relationship with each of your students to help insure success. In order to accomplish this effectively advisors and students need ways of communicating other than the traditional methods.

LEARNING OUTCOMES STUDENTS Schedule an advising appointment Get announcements on important dates and deadlines Get a program overview and career opportunities Interact in real time with peers, GA’s, or advisors on a discussion board Learn how to perform certain tasks, i.e. degree audits, applying to be a full major, applying for field experience, etc. Receive electronic copies of advising summaries and updated degree sheets Have direct links to important websites PARTICIPANTS See how developing an online course for advising can be an effective means of communication Establish a constant connection between student and advisor Identify areas of concern that can be addressed through an online course format Come away with ideas for developing an online course (s) for the specific majors you advise
