LESSON 36 CONNECTIONS 1. Why do all people need to be redeemed? Everyone has sinned and deserves eternal punishment.

LESSON 36 CONNECTIONS 2.Name two things Christ did to redeem us? He kept the law perfectly in our place. He suffered & died as payment for our sins.

LESSON 36 CONNECTIONS 3. Satan wants us to doubt Jesus’ promises and to think that our sins are too great to be forgiven. List several Bible passages about Jesus’ work of redemption that strengthen our faith against such lies. Isaiah 53:5Romans 5:7,8Romans 5:19 John 3:16Hebrews 9:151 John 1:7

LESSON 36 CONNECTIONS 4.What is the threefold work, or office, of Christ? Christ is our High Priest, Prophet, and King.

1 John 1:7 The blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin.

LESSON 34 CONNECTIONS 2. Because of an accident you end up with bruises and broken bones and are in a lot of pain. Why would it be comforting to know that Jesus is both true God and true man? Jesus understands the pain you’re going through. He can heal you, too.

LESSON 37 CONNECTIONS 1.From what has Jesus set us free? Sin, death, and the power of the devil.

LESSON 37 CONNECTIONS 2. “When I see that I keep sinning every day, I wonder, ‘How do I know God can forgive me?’” The blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin.

LESSON 37 CONNECTIONS 3.At many Christian funerals, the pastor will say, “For a Christian, death is a victory.” How can he say that? Because Jesus conquered death, when a Christian dies they go to heaven.

LESSON 37 CONNECTIONS 4. Imagine your cousin has cancer. He is scared he might die. How might you use John 11:25,26 to comfort him? We all die, but believers in Jesus live eternally.

The 2 nd Article of the Apostles’ Creed I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried…

The 2 nd Article of the Apostles’ Creed He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

The 2 nd Article of the Apostles’ Creed What does this mean? I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord…

The 2 nd Article of the Apostles’ Creed He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver but with his holy, precious blood and with his innocent suffering and death.

THE APOSTLES’ CREED – 2 ND ARTICLE JESUS’ EXALTATION Lesson 38 Faith Foundations Course One

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TEACH ABOUT JESUS’ EXALTATION?

HE ROSE IN VICTORY 1.Recall Matthew 28:1-7. When the women came to the tomb, they didn’t expect to see and hear what they did. Why not? People don’t normally rise from the dead. Jesus’ followers hadn’t understood the things he had told them.

HE ROSE IN VICTORY 2.The angel told the women, “He has risen, just as he said.” What does the fact that Jesus predicted his resurrection show about him? He knows all things. He is God.

HE ROSE IN VICTORY 3.Read Romans 1:4. In what way does Christ’s resurrection show he is the Son of God? By rising from the dead, Jesus showed that everything he had said about himself was true—and that he is the Son of God.

HE ROSE IN VICTORY 4.Read John 14:19. Why is Jesus’ resurrection comforting to us when we think of death? The fact that Jesus rose from the dead assures us that we also will rise and live after death.

HE ROSE IN VICTORY 5.After Jesus came back to life, early on Easter Sunday before he showed himself to his followers, he descended into hell. He didn’t go there to suffer. His suffering was completed on the cross. According to 1 Peter 3:19, what did Jesus do in hell? He preached to those in hell.

HE ROSE IN VICTORY 6. Colossians 2:15 helps us understand what he preached in hell. What was his message? He was alive, and by his resurrection he showed he had conquered Satan and death.

HE ROSE IN VICTORY 7.In Mark 16:1-4, God tells us that Jesus appeared to a number of his disciples. Why was it important for Jesus to show his disciples that he was alive? So they would believe all he had said about himself and so they would know that they were forgiven.

KEY POINT #1 Jesus came back to life and descended into hell.

HE ASCENDED TO RULE 8.Recall the Bible story of Jesus’ ascension in Acts 1:4-11. Evaluate this statement: It was important for Jesus to let the disciples see him ascend into heaven, otherwise they might have thought that he was still on earth and that he was preparing to restore Israel as an earthly kingdom. This is true.

HE ASCENDED TO RULE 9.The disciples didn’t see Jesus after he disappeared into the clouds, but what does Mark 16:19 reveal about where Jesus is? He is at the right hand of God.

HE ASCENDED TO RULE 10.Read Matthew 28:18. Why is it comforting for us to know that Jesus is at the right hand of God and that he has all authority? We know that he rules over the world. We can trust that he rules for our good.

HE ASCENDED TO RULE 11.Things weren’t going well for Emily…Her mom put her arm around Emily’s shoulders and whispered, “Let’s pray that God will help us remember that Jesus is at the right hand of God.” What do you think she meant by that? If we remember that Jesus is ruling over all things, then we can be confident that all things will work out for good.

KEY POINT #2 Jesus ascended into heaven and rules heaven and earth.

HE WILL RETURN TO JUDGE THE WORLD 12.Read John 17:24. What does Jesus want for his followers? He wants us to be with him forever in heaven.

HE WILL RETURN TO JUDGE THE WORLD 13.Recall Matthew 25: What will happen on judgment day? Jesus will come in glory, and all people will be gathered before him. He will separate the believers from the unbelievers and invite the believers into heaven. The unbelievers will be sent to hell.

HE WILL RETURN TO JUDGE THE WORLD 14.Read Titus 2:13. What is the Christian’s attitude toward judgment day? We look forward to that day.

HE WILL RETURN TO JUDGE THE WORLD 15.Ashley’s grandfather was dying. He told his pastor: “I know I will have to face God in judgment. I know he is holy. I know I’m not. I’m so afraid.” What would you tell Ashley’s grandfather if you were the pastor? What you say is true. But Jesus already suffered the punishment for your sins on the cross. Believe that.

KEY POINT #3 Jesus will return visibly and in glory to judge all people.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TEACH ABOUT JESUS’ EXALTATION? 1.Jesus came back to life and descended into hell. 2.Jesus ascended into heaven and rules in heaven and earth. 3.Jesus will return visibly and in glory to judge all people. SUMMARY The Bible teaches that Jesus came back to life, descended into hell, ascended into heaven, and will return in glory to judge all people.
