Social Media: Downloading: Safe Websites: Transferring/Exchanging Date: Viruses: Malware: Internet Safety

Section 2 Material Investigation and Research ((ACTDIP039)) ((ACTDIP035))

Design Investigation : 3 Part Artefact + Troubleshooting Choose and research an Asian culture and then design an artefact associated with or based on that culture using Google SketchUp. Design this artefact to be in 3 pieces which can be assembled to create 1 artefact. Once you have created this artefact design a troubleshoot sheet to help people who attempt to recreate your design. Which culture are you researching? What are some of the symbols and ideas which represent this culture? How will you divide the work evenly between the members of your group? How does your Artefact relate to your chosen culture? Is it a recognizable symbol for this culture? What is a troubleshoot? What is a troubleshoot used for? Does your troubleshoot work effectively to help people trying to recreate your Artefact? Are there more steps you could include to help? Size Limitations: Each of the 3 parts of the Artefact can only be a maximum of 4cm x 4cm x 4cm The troubleshoot shoot include:Prerequisites Steps to Use Tools and Functionality Additional Information Change History

Design Project: Photographic Composition Knowing what makes a good photograph is important to a photographer. They spend much time learning how to get the best from their equipment and learning to use professional software like Photoshop. They also research and learn about good photographic composition. You need to create a website to display your photos and explain the different uses of 5 of the following 10 rules of composition Your website must have explanations of each of the 5 rules of composition from your group and each rule must have at least 3 accompanying photos illustrating this rule. Your series of photo’s for each composition rule need to work together to tell a story. All up there should be a minimum of 15 photos. Think about different elements you can introduce to your photos such as texture, patterns, lines, form and colour. You can explore different themes with your photos and use natural photography for most or you can alter all of your photos using Photoshop. Group A the Cropping rule will be one of the rules you need to show use of Photoshop and you will also have to choose another of your rules to display Photoshop. Group B the Experimentation rule will be one of the rules you need to show use of Photoshop and you will also have to choose another of your rules to display Photoshop. For your website you will need to create a Style Sheet. A Style Sheet is a template of the layout of your website including font sizes and types to give a standardized look to your website. You will need to create and maintain a design folio keeping track of your investigation, your design ideas, the steps involved in creating your final product and an evaluation of your final product and the whole process. Group A 1) Rule of Thirds 2) Balancing Elements 3) Viewpoint 4) Background 5) Cropping Group B 1) Leading Lines 2) Symmetry and Patterns 3) Depth 4) Framing 5) Experimentation

Section 3 The Design Brief ((ACTDIP038)) ((ACTDIK041))

Design Process: The Design Brief Information The Problem and Design Brief are sometimes viewed as two different sections of the design process. However, they are very closely related. Before you can start a design project you must find a ‘problem’ to solve. Sometimes this may be given to you as a question set by the teacher or the Examinations Board and is usually a paragraph of writing. The ‘design brief’ follows the ‘problem’ and states clearly how you intend to solve the design problem. The brief and problem shown below has been produced for a project based on an educational toy. THE DESIGN PROBLEM 1. The brief and problem is mainly text (writing) that is printed in a clear style so that it can be read and understood easily. 2. The problem is a paragraph or more in length. It describes the problem you are aiming to solve. Do not say how you intend to solve the problem, only what the problem is. If you have been given a examination question as your design project, add more detail. The example opposite is based on the following examination question: “Design and make an educational device for young children. It must improve hand and eye coordination”. The problem written opposite is a more detailed and imaginative way of writing the examination question. A pedestrian crossing simulator has been selected by the pupil as the educational device. 3. The first sentence should state the problem, adding more detail with the following sentences. 4. If the examination question does not name the product that has to be designed and made (such as an educational device) - you can mention an area that you are interested in. This could include, jigsaws, puzzles or something that could be adapted as an educational device. THE DESIGN BRIEF 1. Always start the design brief with “I am going to design and make.....”. This is followed by a general description of the type of device you feel will answer the design problem. 2. Do not be too specific. The brief should be a general description that allows you flexibility regarding the type of product you intend to make. For example, if your are designing an automatic animal feeder it may be a good idea not to say the type of animal it is for, at least not at this stage in the project. 3. Do not be specific about materials. It may be wise to avoid stating the exact materials it will be manufactured from (eg. pine, steel, perspex etc...). Instead describe the materials to be used as strong, tough, flexible, natural, manmade, recycled, water-proof or similar general descriptions. 4. Mention points such as; safety, general size, what it will do (it’s functions), general properties of the materials needed, who it is for (eg children), basic cost of manufacture or a lower and upper cost limits, circuit requirements and other points you feel are important.

Design Process: My Design Problem and Design Brief The Design Problem You need to design and create visual documentation explaining a number of compositional rules of photography and illustrate how these rules may look in photographs. The Design Brief Task I am going to design and make….. Criteria and Guidelines You need to show a clear understanding of 5 of the following 10 rules of compositions; 1) Rule of Thirds 2) Leading Lines 3) Balancing Elements 4) Symmetry and Patterns 5) Viewpoint 6) Depth 7) Background 8) Framing 9) Cropping 10) Experimentation For each of these compositional rules you need to have at least 3 photos taken by yourself. In total there must be at least 15 photos. The photos for each compositional rule must work together to tell a story. You could link the photos of all 5 rules to create 1 flowing story or break it up into smaller segments to create several short stories or 5 individual stories. The Cropping Composition Rule and the Experimentation Composition Rule are the only ones which must show evidence of digital manipulation. Of the other 4 compositional rules in your group at least 1 must show evidence of digital manipulation using Photoshop. Your website must come with a Style Sheet showing clear evidence of a uniform design template. Other considerations Timeline While making this project I will need to keep track of my expected progress and my actual progress to manage my time correctly. Concept Map I will need to create concept maps to layout my ideas for; 1.Website Style Sheet 2.Photographic Story Ideas/Themes Designing While making this project I will need to keep evidence of my design ideas and processes including rough sketches, unused photographs and also photo story themes.

Section 4 Investigating ideas and existing examples ((ACTDIP038))

Research: Photographic Story Ideas – Find examples of products based on your idea that have been constructed. Make a comment by their design by focusing on ease of construction, safeness, the ‘look’ or aesthetics and how functional the designs are. Give them a rating from 1 to 5 (1 is great and 5 is not too good) This photographic story idea tells of the revolving balance between practice, competition and more practice a professional diver needs to go through. I like the idea but not the actual topic of this story. Rating: 3

Section 5 Devising Design Concepts ((ACTDIP038))

Design Concepts: Final Design Idea Draw your design idea accurately or if possible to scale (1:4) using 5mm grid graph paper. Scan or photograph the designs and paste into this presentation. Make a comment on the design by focusing on ease of construction, safeness, aesthetics and how functional the design is. Give them a rating from 1 to 5 (1 is great and 5 is not too good)

Section 6 Product Record ((ACTDIP044))

Product Record: Visual documentation Document the process of making your final design using photographs or video. Clearly label the steps and record any useful information.

Section 7 Presentation of Final Design and Evaluation ((ACTDIP044))

Presentation: Final Design Pictures Photograph your final design from various angles and/or with it being used.

Presentation: Final Design Videos Here is a short video showing me using my final product.

Presentation: Evaluation On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being excellent and 5 being below average) rate your final design.: I was …so I rate mine... Ask others to rate it as well and give an average rating. I asked … how they rated my product. They gave it a combined rating of … What is it that makes your design particularly good or not so good? My design is …. What would you change or do differently next time? I would have liked to … What part of the whole process did you find most challenging? The most challenging part of the whole process for me was…. What and/or who helped you the most in completing this task and how? The people that helped me the most on this project were...
