6.1 Classifying Quadrilaterals 2/18 and 2/19

Learning Target I can define and classify special types of quadrilaterals

Parallelogram – a quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel Rhombus – a parallelogram with four congruent sides Rectangle – a parallelogram with 4 right angles Square – a parallelogram with four congruent sides and four right angles

Kite: quadrilateral with two pairs of adjacent sides congruent and no opposite side congruent. Trapezoid: quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides. Isosceles Trapezoid: a Trapezoid whose non parallel sides are congruent.

Look at diagram on p. 289 and try to answer the questions on the worksheet with always, sometimes or never.

Recall slope and distance formulas. Write them in your notes. You will need them for this section because we are doing coordinate geometry. Also, Recall that Parallel sides will have the same slope and perpendicular sides have negative reciprocals.

Lets do 1, 2 and 12 on the worksheet together.

Now you do 13, 14 and 15

Try 9-11

RECAP: – Can you classify a quadrilateral based on its properties? – Can you use the properties to find values of variables?

Homework: P #7-12, odd,
