Architecture Task AR Status Presented to the July Meeting of the GEO and Architecture and Data Committee Dr. Thomas C. Adang AR Point of Contact

AR Task Title Establish a process for GEO Members and Participating Organizations to commit component systems to GEOSS Advocate specific initial commitments of contributed systems and other components –Include agreement to accept GEOSS interoperability specifications defined to date –Allow for growth

Component System Categories (Per GEOSS Reference Document) Components to acquire observations Components to process data into useful information, recognizing the value of modeling, integration, and assimilation Components required to exchange and disseminate observational data and information

AR Task Progress Developed draft recommended process by which GEO Members and Participating Organizations “register” their components, including registration form Received hosting proposal from OGC for interoperability registry

Component Registration Form Description Component Category Societal Benefit Area(s) affected Sponsor System –System Name and Abbreviation –Description (including URL) –Contact Name, Organization, Address

Recommended Process Actions (Needs ADC Discussion) ADC and GEO Secretariat review and concur with registration form (as amended, if necessary) GEO Secretariat notifies GEO Members and Participating Organizations of registration process GEO Members and Participating Organizations submit registration form to GEO Secretariat (e- mail form or Web form) –GEO Secretariat confirms sponsorship –Applicant confirms intent to adhere to standards Components are added to registry (upon activation)

Registry Hosting Proposal Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) approved two motions regarding establishment of a register and registry supporting geospatial interoperability –Meetings approved unanimously by OGC Technical and Planning Committees –List of items to be registered will be developed over time, allowing for coordination with GEO

OGC Motions That an ISO conformant register of recognized authorities and object-types for use with the OGC URN scheme be deployed on the OGC Network That a URN Resolver be deployed on OGC Network, using OGC CS/W interface, to return the definition corresponding to a submitted OGC URN (Query Interface)

Hosting Proposal Discussion OGC Representative present to answer questions on hosting proposal Discussion topics to include: –Implementation timelines –Relationship to or ability to include components and interoperability specifications
