2 OVERVIEW & SCOPE OF WORK SUMMARY Current Status: Six additional filters (narrow band) designed, ordered and received Meeting concerning original airworthiness/pressure testing of our cryogen reservoirs – canceled by DFRC as being unnecessary. FLITECAM is complete & stable. It is currently in storage. Remaining Tasks (for FY2009): Inspect filters, prepare drawings/shims, develop installation plan Installation will likely occur in late July when resources are available Understand changes to MCCS and update as required – no progress yet Hiring freeze at UCLA Understand Instrument Conformity USRA pulling Instrument Conformity package together to submit to NASA (May).

3 QA Issues and Mitigations Interface to MCS (minor) We completed the software interfaces as outlined below under the previous USRA plan but will need to make changes as required to accommodate the new MCS –Tier 1: Basic Connectivity completed –Tier 2: Mission Data Handling completed –Tier 3: Command Handling completed –Tier 4: Observing Scenarios – FLITECAM code complete, tested against MCS until stopped We may need to establish new interfaces and tests. We contacted our previous software engineer but cannot secure her services full-time –She reviewed current SOFIA documents and reported no significant impact –There is a hiring freeze at UCLA right now so we cannot search for a new software engineer; there is also not enough work for a 100% FTE We must defer this work until later in FY09 or possible FY10

7 FLITECAM Documentation Status Master Data List complete – documents on web site & FLITECAM Cabinet FAA Component Maintenance Manual complete All drawings up to date – FLITECAM document storage cabinet & web site Draft Integration & Commissioning Plan complete Software Documentation is complete and up to date UPDATE: RECENTLY supplied Master Drawing List details to USRA as requested.

8 FLITECAM MILESTONES Next major event is installation of new filters – July Then, integration with new MCCS build – needs software support.

9 CONCLUSIONS Work for 2009:  Install new filters  Plan in place to carry out work in late July  Software interface to new MCS – hire software engineer (?)  Delay implementation; use part-time resources for now  Submit materials for conformity review/approval  Probably now early FY10 Constraints: UCLA personnel are not available for conformity activities until summer 2009 at earliest.  UCLA staff are building MOSFIRE for Keck and GPI for Gemini-South. Both projects are moving along well. Budget: OK (= $150k for FY09; $47,500 remains to be funded)  Includes filter purchase and installation, plus a part-time programmer (50%)
