GLOBE THEATRE Autumn Best, dakota book, Lesly Palmer S

History Built in 1576 Located in London Where Shakespeare performed and wrote all his plays Took 6 months to build The theatre was also used for gambling not just plays Was built by Peter Smith Bubonic Plague was a terrible outbreak it forced the theatre to closed 4 different times and killed 20,000 people

History The audience would pay 1 penny to stand in the "pit" (the area around the stage) The wealthy people would have a chair to watch the play The plays were performed in the afternoon because electric lighting didn't exist yet The plays were open to men and woman but woman would wear masks to disguise their face When the Bubonic Plague was an outbreak Shakespeare would travel home to Stratford and write more plays while he had a break from performing

What Happened? London's authorities banned the public presentation of plays and all theaters within the city limits of London. All theaters located in the City were told to move to the South side of the River Thames. The Globe then was not in use until 1613, when on June 29 a fire broke out The roof caught on fire and burned to the ground The casualties were never known
