WASTE In our globalize economy raw materials are extracted ; transported, processed in factories, shipped around the world to the markets for their value. When they are no more valued they will be treated and disposed as waste, transported, burned or buried at the landfills and polluting the environment. Waste is directly linked to human development; both technologically and socially

WASTE PICKERS Every day thousands of men and women across South Africa earn a living by picking waste, segregating it, dismantling it, cleaning it, transporting it and trading in it. They are a primary recycling system in South Africa.

WASTE IS A RESOURCE

RESPECT THE WASTE PICKERS The role of waste pickers in reducing the amount of waste transported to landfills, extending landfills life span, replacing virgin material, contributing to the economy and combating climate change cannot go unnoticed.

MANAGING WASTE

Managing waste requires more than technical fixes managing waste requires a large web of decision The decision about health, equity, race, power, gender, poverty and governance.

ZERO WASTE Zero waste is the cheapest way of managing waste, environmentally friendly, economically viable and creates sustainable jobs with health and safety standards and combarts climate change.
