VPP = Voluntary Protection Program OSHA Program that allows employers, employees and OSHA to work together to make a “Safer Tomorrow”. VPP Star facilities are considered “leaders” in Safety.

VPP Goals Enhance Safety and Health Program while building and maintaining higher level of awareness Reduce risk of injury and illness Maximize staff moral and establish culture that constantly promotes safety Enhance line of communication between all levels Gain pride and recognition as a leader in safety in community and Window Covering Industry

VPP Process Submit your application & OSHA office reviews application for approval If OSHA office recommends application approval, a date is set OSHA team of 3-4 auditors scheduled for a 3-4 day review of facility and procedures Team will recommend for Star or Merit or suggest withdraw the application Letter from OSHA on acceptance as STAR or Merit Official Ceremony

On-Site Review Day One - Opening Conference, Record Review, Luncheon Presentation, Facility Tour Day Two - Facility Tour, Luncheon Presentation Day Three - Employee Interviews, Luncheon Presentation Day Four - Employee Interviews, Luncheon Presentation Day Five - Finish loose ends, Closing Conference

90 - Day Contingency List At closing conference, OSHA will give a 90-Day contingency list that may include items they would like to see implemented or corrected prior to receiving STAR certification.

Getting Ready for VPP Eligible if you have scored above 90 on your last two E-SAFE audits. Your 3 year average on TCIR and DART are below the highest BLS numbers of the last three years. Employees are committed and engaged in Safety. Management is committed and engaged in Safety. Review the criteria for VPP on OSHA web site. Prepare your application and submit it to OSHA.

Training for VPP Do at least two trainings on what and why VPP. Prior to the inspection, do a training on the questions that will be asked in the interview. Do a training on the overall Safety Manual. Go to a Regional or National VPP Safety Conference.

EMPLOYEE INTERVIEW 1) How are you made aware of safety rules and procedures? Supervisor, EHS Dept., communication meetings, newsletters, tail-gate meetings, etc. 2) Where are the SDS’s located ? On any computer & hard copies with EHS 3) Do you know how to get a SDS? Go to EHS Office, ask Supervisor or look up list of chemicals listed in folder at computer.

EMPLOYEE INTERVIEW 4) What happens when someone breaks safety rules? Safety violation policy used 5) How do you report injuries and / or illnesses? Report to supervisor immediately 6) How do you get proper PPE? Request from your supervisor 7) What PPE do you use and how were the requirements communicated to you? Ex. Safety glasses, told by supervisor and / or EHS

EMPLOYEE INTERVIEW 8) Do you know where to find the company safety program (manual)? Located in binder in break room and also on EHS intranet page 9) What system is in place for reporting equipment and machinery hazards? Policy requires you report to supervisor immediately 10) Do you feel they are handled in a timely manner? Issues are handled immediately if possible, if not in a timely manner.

EMPLOYEE INTERVIEW 11) What do you do when you see a hazard? Report it to supervisor, manager or EHS. 12) How can you express safety concerns or suggestions? To supervisor, manager, EHS, & suggestion box. 13) Do you know how to contact a Safety Committee member? Members listed on Safety Bulletin Board and Hazard ID boards. 14) Do you attend safety meetings? If so, what topics have recently been discussed? Supervisors hold monthly tail-gate meeting on various topics. Recently, we’ve discussed VPP, and hazards.
