BACKGROUND Guarantees: - The infrastructure of the South African National Health system with regard to availability of a comprehensive health and medical services on a 24 hours basis will be put at the disposal of 2010 FIFA World Cup - Upgrading of the current health infrastructure - Accreditation of foreign medical professionals to practice on their players and other relevant members of the delegations - There will be no restrictions on the marketing, distributing (including import and export) serving, consuming and advertising of alcoholic beverages. 2

AREAS OF FOCUS In delivering the guarantees the department focused in the following areas of service provision: Emergency medical services Hospital services Port health Communications Environmental health services (including food and water safety) Communicable disease control and Surveillance Forensic Pathology and Forensic Medicine Health Promotion Command and Control Facilitate accreditation of foreign medical contingents 3

Progress on Projects ProjectReadiness 1.2 EMS Personnel 1.3 Communication systems Ready and gaps filled with SAMHS, Private sector and NPO’s Finalize deployment of first aiders from NPOs by end of May 2010 Provinces have communications control centers ready except in North West and Eastern Cape. Both provinces are currently upgrading their systems and set to be ready by the 21 st May
