Pearl Harbor December, 7th, 1941 By: Matthew Loo Social Studies

What is Pearl Harbor? The Untied States kept all of their Navy ships at one location called Pearl Harbor and it was in Hawaii islands called Oahu. All of the Navy personal lived in this base. There where navy people, nurses, doctors and leaders all at this one place.

Battle Ship Row The ships where all group together in rows with each ship group by two. The many ships that were at Pearl Harbor were the USS California, the USS Oklahoma, the USS West Virginia, the USS Nevada, just some of the ships that where there. The most famous battleship was called the USS Arizona.

The Sides to Pearl Harbor Japans side. Untied states side Japan wanted to take over the world. Japan Knew by attacking Pearl Harbor that it will cripple our Navy and making the United States rebel against them. The Untied States wanted peace with Japan. The United States did know that Japan was planning an attack but America didn’t know it was on them.

When the attack happen? The attack happen on a Sunday morning the date was December 7th, 1941. Japan attack Pearl Harbor at 7 o clock in the morning. The military personal where still sleeping and even some where ending their watch had happen.

The Japan Air Planes Here is an example of an Japanese air plane that attack Pearl Harbor. Notice the red circle on the back of the plane represents the Japans flag. This also help our military personal identify the enemies as well.

The damage to Pearl Harbor The Japanese managed to destroy nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight enormous battleships the most famous was the USS Arizona. The attack lasted for two hours. Japan attack Pearl Harbor, and major air strips so that our military couldn’t defend themselves. More than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and another 1,000 were wounded in that attack.

The USS Arizona Here is the USS Arizona sinking from a major bomb that the Japanese drop on the ship killing more then 1,500 people on board. The people that where on the bottom of the ship where trap with no way out, they died at the bottom of the ship. There is a memorial of this ship at Hawaii that is open to the public to visit. Next slide we will see pictures of the memorial.

The USS Arizona Memorial This is the USS Arizona memorial. The memorial is located on top of the lost ship where many people lives have been lost. This is open to the public and many people go here every day and year long.

After the attack After the attacks on December 8th, 1941 President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave a famous speech. The speech was called an infantry speech. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VqQAf74fsE

After the speech After President Roosevelt speech the United States enter World War II. The Untied States came together as one and supported one another. The war lasted four years.
