Agenda Utah Lodge Study – Master Mason Characteristics – Why They Joined – Their Evaluation of Masonry What It Tells Us Today Thoughts On Meeting Their Expectations

Utah Study Master Mason Characteristics – 10 years or fewer as a Master Mason – Member in good standing – Average years a member was 3.7 years Why they joined – 49% had been interested in Masonry for ≥ 5 years – They had a friend who was a member in the lodge – 36% interested in philosophical aspects of Masonry – 23% interested in fraternal aspects of Masonry – 15% interested in educational aspects of Masonry

Utah Study Their evaluation of Masonry – 80% say Masonry is an important part of their life – 73.6% say they are not spending as much time as they would like – 56% say they plan to commit more time – 66% say there are not enough opportunities to serve

What It Tells Us Today Things they did not talk about – Introductions – Reading of minutes – Paying of bills We have a roadmap for better participation – Minimize minutia at stated meetings – Make sure we give them: Philosophy Fraternity Education

Thoughts On Meeting Their Expectations At closing, read a SUMMARY of the minutes Create a lodge budget – Only items outside the budget need to be approved Have younger Masons give educational presentations Create degree teams of younger members Try not to rush them in to an Officers Chair
