Length – “the Meter”  How long is something?  We use the Meter to measure the length of objects

Need to Know!!!!  10 mm = 1 cm  100 cm = 1 m  1000 m = 1 km  1000 mm = 100 cm  1000 mm = 1 m  How many mm = 1 km ???

 The “Need to Know” on the previous slide holds true for EVERY unit of measurement in the metric system! You can substitute in gram for meter, or liter for gram… all three have the same exact conversions!  Keep this in mind as you continue through the presentation!

Mass – “the Gram”  Mass is a measure like weight, or how heavy something is.  Measurement like ounces and pounds.

Volume – “the Liter”  Volume tells how much space an object takes up  Used to measure liquids  Measurement like cups, ounces and gallons
