 HUB  SWITCH  ROUTER  BRIDGE  GATEWAY  FIREWALL  WIRELESS AP Kuriakose_CECS5460

 It is a device with multiple ports and it is used to transmit data from a device to another. E.g. copies of packets transport from a port to another  It may be used to connect two or more PCs together to build communication.  The price range from $20 to $60 Image 2 from: computer- science wikispaces. com/3.4+networ ked+computer+s ystems Image 1 from: ystep.com/differe nce-between- hub-and-switch- in-networking / Kuriakose_CECS5460

 Unlike a hub, a switch connects multiple devices together onto one network.  What is the differences between a hub and switch: hub copies packets and switch forwards and filters data from one location to another. However, it is faster and can be handled with more devices.  It is used to connect more than one PCs and devices on a network. E.g: printers and IP phones  Moreover, price range from $20 to $8,000+ Image 1 from: china.com/showroom/h k-sales/product- detailFebJOKYHMMpS/Ch ina-POE-Switch.html Image 2 from: bout.com/od/homenetwo rking/ig/Home-Network- Diagrams/Hub-Switch- Network-Diagram.htm Kuriakose_CECS5460

 It forwards data packets through network sort of like a switch, although locations of routers are at gateway where two or more networks meet and acts as a firewall.  It is commonly used at consumer level for mostly home networks which connect to the internet  Price varies from $30 to $400 Image 1 from: nternet.com/wp- content/uploads/2012/ 04/Netgear_002.jpg Image 2 from: Kuriakose_CECS5460

 A system which is capable of joining two individual networks together which uses different protocols  Commonly used when connecting LAN to internet  Come in software or hardware  Price varies from $100 to $16,000+ Image 2 from: u.ac.jp/opengate/hardstr uct.png Image 1 from: dam/tcom/personal/connectedhome /images/telstra-connected-home- getwifi-cable-home-gateaway- 290x220.png Kuriakose_CECS5460

 Just like it sounds, it provides a bridge or connection b/w two LAN segments  Can be used when having wireless LAN & wired LAN. Allows communication b/w a wireless device and wire device  Come in formation of either software or hardware form.  Price range anywhere from $40 to $200+ Image 1 from: /wp- content/uploads/2011/0 6/DAP-1522.jpg Image 2 from: uk/users/gorry/course/i mages/bridge-1.gif Kuriakose_CECS5460

 It is a network security device which filters unwanted traffic from entering into the network  Used on any network which connects to the internet  Again, come in either software or hardware  Price range from $100 to $14,000+ Image 1 from: Image 1 from: m/i/free-vector- firewall- network-block- communication- data-clip- art_120984_firew all-network- block- communication- data-clip- art/Firewall_Netw ork_Block_Comm unication_Data_c lip_art_hight.png Kuriakose_CECS5460

 A device which allows wireless devices to connect to the network  Used in any situation where the admins want their network to be accessed wirelessly  Price ranges from $40 to $3,000+ Image 2 from: 4Mbps_Wireless_Acces s_Point_Storage_WAP_ 0007_diagram.jpg Image 1 from: try.com/images_di/ph oto-g/wireless-wifi- network-access- point jpg Kuriakose_CECS5460
