Step 1 You start with the adjustment layer version of the black and white converter. So you click on the new adjustment layer icon on the bottom of the layers palette. Then you choose black and white from the list of adjustment layers that appears

Step 2 After clicking on that it will bring up the black and white box dialog box. The main features in the box are six color sliders. Each one of the sliders controls one of the six primary colors in the image starting with the Reds at the top followed in order by Yellows, Greens, Cyans, Blues, and the Magentas at the bottom.

Step 3 The sliders adjust how bright or dark each color will appear in the black and white version. You can use this to emphasize or de-emphasize objects or areas in the image, brightening important areas and darkening less important ideas,its all based on the original colors of the original picture Each slider is already set on to a certain value, with the Reds set to 40%, Yellows set to 60%, these are the default values that Photoshop uses as a starting point for the black and white conversion. You also notice that as soon as you choose the Black & White adjustment from the Layers palette, Photoshop instantly converts your photo to black and white using those default settings. Step 4 After messing with the picture to your liking of darkness and whiteness you will get the black and white picture you desire
