Starting Up MineSight for Your Coal Mine Project

Start MineSight 3D

On the Splash Screen Click the Browse Button to go to the start of Your project Click Browse A directory structure Comes up for you To maneuver to your Starting directory

Click on Ok to Start the Program and Project

It Asks You for Permission to Start a Resources Folder for the Project Say Yes

It Asks You for Dimension Information in a Project Settings Folder It needs to know Whether Measures Are metric Or English (ie – Imperial) For an Illinois Coal project They are Probably imperial

Next it needs the Area Covered by Your Project For our project the Minimums are Easting Northing Elevation -100 The Maximums are Easting Northing Elevation 500 Why these limits? – because that is where the data set for this project Is located

Last Thing is Cell Size Since coal entries are On average 20 feet Wide a a basic cut is 20 feet or maybe 40 With automation 20 By 20 is a good size. (21.12 is because 1000 is max number of Blocks in a direction. 19 is # seams we have) After completing input Click ok

The Program Opens (The next thing we need is a Project Control File) Go the MineSight tab To start MineSight Compass (a collection of Programs)

Pick Compass from the Pull Down Menu

You Get a Love Note About No Project File Found The note tells You what to do If you know the File is there Then move on And pick the File We know its not There so we will Go on and pick File/New Project Click OK

On the Compass Screen Pick File Then pick new from The drop down menu Then pick PCF (you are creating A project control file For MineSight to Keep track of your Project in)

It Wants to Know Where to Store the File Browse to your Project directory That you chose And then click Ok

The Program Begins an Interactive Screen to Get Information from You You will need to Pick imperial units Again (enter 1)

Each Choice Has a Pull Down List of Options A 3D block model Divides the world Into blocks A GSM just models Things like coal Seams (We pick GSM)

More Inputs Pick a short Name for your Project (I thought Coal was Appropriate) Pick the type of Project from the Pull down Menu (I’m going To go for coal)

Also Pick A Project Description This project Explanation goes To every report Heading you Print out so don’t Get cute or Obscene in an Unprofessional way When you finish A screen push The forward Arrow.

The Next Screen Wants to Know What You Want to Call the Layers in your Model Last time I Checked most Coal people Liked to call them Seams.

Next Screen Repeat the Dimensions Information We will not be Rotating Coordinates (sometimes we Want to line our Reserves model Up with some Natural geologic Direction)

We are Putting in Our Project Dimensions Twice? The difference Here is you are Setting up how The computer Model of the Coal blocks will Be divided up. Before you were Simply telling the Computer what Area your project Would be located In.

Next Screen Wants Us to Label Each Seam in our Model The label is what You want the Program to call it The seam code Is a number to Represent that Seam (your drill hole Files will tip the Program off that The seam has Been encountered By giving this Code number)

When You Click Forward this time the procedure runs creating a report and the Project Control File

The Report File is Ascii based and is found in your project directory Creating a Project control File is routine 101 Its output file is Called Rpt101.la (Rpt is for Report – the Number is the Program that Generated it – La is the old Name for a Printer file)
