Click your mouse for next slide Dreamweaver – Synchronizing your Site to a Network Drive In the first lesson we defined our site and we associated a root folder with it One other powerful aspect of Dreamweaver is that by using the site management tools you can publish your site to the web. First you must add some information to your site definition so go to the site menu and choose Define Site

Click your mouse for next slide Dreamweaver – Synchronizing your Site to a Network Drive Now locate the title of your site and click on it once to select it. Then choose the edit button

Click your mouse for next slide Dreamweaver – Synchronizing your Site to a Network Drive Next choose the Remote Information option Drop the Access list down and choose the Local/Network option Then say OK. What we have done is to tell Dreamweaver that we are going to keep all our files in a special folder on the network as well as in the Root Folder we specified under Local Info

Click your mouse for next slide Dreamweaver – Synchronizing your Site to a Network Drive Now browse to the network folder set up for you by FST. (just ask him and he will tell you how to find this folder) Now Dreamweaver knows that the files in the two places – local and remote are supposed to be the same site. Now Say OK and then Done. Notice that the screen is now showing the two folders one the left is the remote folder and on the right is the local folder

Click your mouse for next slide Dreamweaver – Synchronizing your Site to a Network Drive How do we make sure that the two are in fact the same. Do we have to save twice every time we make a change. NO – Dreamweaver will handle all this for you – here’s how Go to the Site menu option and choose the Synchronize choice

Click your mouse for next slide Dreamweaver – Synchronizing your Site to a Network Drive Now you get this little menu. Choose the Synchronize choice and drip the list down so that the Entire Site choice is highlighted

Click your mouse for next slide Dreamweaver – Synchronizing your Site to a Network Drive Then choose the Direction list and make sure that the “Put newer files to the Remote site” is chosen Then click the Preview button

Click your mouse for next slide Dreamweaver – Synchronizing your Site to a Network Drive You get this really nifty screen which shows you that if you say yes Dreamweaver will put copies of all these files to the remote site Notice that if the files are already these Dreamweaver will not bother. This Synchronize function is very important because several times a lesson FST wants you to synchronize your site so that he can look at and check your files You also want this because as you know, many things will get wiped off local drives So Say OK and let Dreamweaver synchronize your site.

Click your mouse for next slide Super Giant Big Fun Assignment Set up your site and define it so that it links to the INFOPRO\WEBSITES folder and to the subfolder with your name on it Set up the site management so that Dreamweaver will synchronize to this folder Synchronize and then call over FST so he can TICK YOU OFF
