ABMP Student Success Curriculum Topic 4: Time Management and Organization

2. Goals of This Lecture Understand the way you currently use your time. Plan how to use time efficiently in the future. Understand the benefits of an assignment calendar. Plan one month’s worth of daily study sessions.

3. Benefits of Time Management Use of time becomes more efficient Eliminates cramming for tests Reduces test anxiety Promotes assignment completion Improves grades Reduces stress levels

4. Time Tracking Review the Time Tracker Form for Karen on page 41. Identify how many hours Karen uses inefficiently. Identify where Karen could plan more study time.

5. How Do I Spend My Time? Complete a Time Tracker Form (worksheet 4-2) for last week. Analyze the way you currently spend your time. Identify how many hours you could use for study sessions.

6. How will I manage my time in the future? Complete the Time Manageme nt Planning Calendar (worksheet 4-4, page 45) to plan your future time. Fill in work times. Fill in school times. Fill in sleep times. Fill in “must do” items. Fill in study times (one hour of study for every hour of school each week). Fill in leisure or “life” times.

7. Benefits of a Study Log Some classes require more study. Some classes require less study. A study log helps plan future study sessions more efficiently.

8. The Assignment Calendar Massage Year Planner –Complete the assignment calendar in your Massage Year Planner at the beginning of each month. –One stop shopping for seeing what’s up ahead.

9. Daily Study Plans Plan of daily study tasks Use your assignment calendar to determine daily study plans. Complete one month’s worth of daily study plans in your Massage Year Planner.

10. Good Ideas for Study Plans Complete the most difficult or time- consuming study tasks first. Break projects up into bite-sized chunks. Time left over? Work ahead!

11. Other Time Management Tips Study during bits of unscheduled time. Tape lectures; listen to them while commuting. Use flash cards for small blocks of study. Every minute of study helps!

12. Before Leaving School Checklist Have you: –Written down all assignments/due dates? –Gathered all the books and handouts you need? –Spoken to any necessary school staff? –Reviewed your plan for the day’s study session?

13. Process Time Management How do you feel about time management? Will you use the time management forms in your Massage Year Planner? Do you view time management as a positive or negative of school? Other thoughts?
