1968 A very tumultuous year

TET Offensive - February

TET Massive assault of North Vietnam against MULTIPLE sites in south and central Vietnam Overall numbers would show that the US supported southern bases held their positions and technically ‘won’ the day in overall numbers PERCEPTION was that we lost – that we were unable to control the situation

My Lai Massacre - March Massacre As the "search and destroy" mission unfolded, it soon degenerated into the massacre of over 300 apparently unarmed civilians including women, children, and the elderly. Calley ordered his men to enter the village firing, though there had been no report of opposing fire. According to eyewitness reports offered after the event, several old men were bayoneted, praying women and children were shot in the back of the head, and at least one girl was raped and then killed. For his part, Calley was said to have rounded up a group of the villagers, ordered them into a ditch, and mowed them down in a fury of machine gun fire.

Chicago 7 From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Chicago Seven (originally Chicago Eight, also Conspiracy Eight/Conspiracy Seven) were seven defendants—Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, John Froines, and Lee Weiner—charged with conspiracy, inciting to riot, and other charges related to countercultural protests that took place in Chicago, Illinois, on the occasion of the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Bobby Seale, the eighth man charged, had his trial severed during the proceedings, lowering the number from eight to seven.Abbie HoffmanJerry RubinDavid DellingerTom HaydenRennie DavisJohn Froines Lee WeinerriotcounterculturalChicagoIllinois1968 Democratic National ConventionBobby Seale

CSN - Chicago Crosby, Stills & Nash Chicago Lyrics Artist: Crosby, Stills & Nash LyricsCrosby, Stills & Nash Lyrics So your brother's bound and gagged And they've chained him to a chair Won't you please come to chicago just to sing In a land that's known as freedom how can such a thing be fair won't you please come to chicago for the help that we can bring We can change the world rearrange the world It's dying - to get better Politicians sit yourselves down, there's nothing for you here won't you please come to chicago for a ride don't ask jack to help you `cause he'll turn the other ear won't you please come to chicago or else join the other side We can change the world rearrange the world it's dying - if you believe in justice dying - and if you believe in freedom dying - let a man live his own life dying - rules and regulations, who needs them open up the door Somehow people must be free I hope the day comes soon won't you please come to chicago show your face From the bottom of the ocean to the mountains of the moon won't you please come to chicago no one else can take your place We can change the world rearrange the world It's dying - if you believe in justice dying - and if you believe in freedom dying - let a man live his own life dying - rules and regulations, who needs them open up the door
