New Words Cartilaginous- meaning- of or resembling cartilage. Cartilage- a strong, elastic tissue which is very flexible Phosphates- phosphate is a salt of phosphoric acid Cartilage- a firm, elastic, flexible type of connective tissue of a translucent whitish or yellowish colour Intervertebral- situated between the vertebrae Vertebrae- a long column of hollow bones

Major components of a bone The periosteum, the compact (hard) bone, the cancellous (spongy)bone. The bone marrow is a yellow tissue found in the middle of the bone.

10 Most important bones of the body Cranium (skull) which is the head Clavicle (collar bone) Sternum which is in between the ribs Ribs Vertical column (spine) which is in the middle of the body Radius which is in between your wrist and elbow

10 Most important bones of the body Ilium which is in the pelvic girdle (pelvis) Femur which is in between your hip and knee Tibia which is connected to the fibula Fibula which connects to Tibia

4 Major kinds of joints Fibrous which is immovable Cartilage joint which only allows a certain amount of movement Synovial joints are freely movable Ball and Socket joint allows movement in all directions

Diseases Arthritis is the most common joint problem. - the word arthritis describes more than 100 different diseases that can damage joints - Osteoarthritis is caused by a breakdown of cartilage - Rheumatoid arthritis is a condition in which the body’s immune system destroys its own tissues

The skeleton has five major functions: 1) Gives shape and support to your body 2) Protects your internal organs 3) Helps major muscles move 4) Forms blood cells 5) Store calcium and phosphorous
