Purpose: To enhance IET and Drill Sergeant School training strategies and methods based on established science of learning principles and well defined training outcomes Products:  Instruments and methods for assessing IET effectiveness, learning outcomes, and operational relevance  Methods for assessing and enhancing Soldier transformation during IET  Strategies for enhancing Drill Sergeant training  Recommendations for revised basic and advanced rifle marksmanship training Payoff: Better trained Soldiers arriving at first unit of assignment Builds foundation for implementing TRADOC’s Army Learning Concept 2015 Transforming IET Leaders and Soldiers ARI lead: Dr. M. Glenn Cobb, ARI Ft. Jackson Research Element Collaboration/coordination: TRADOC, TRADOC DCG-IMT, TSSD, BCTCOE, Drill Sergeant School Army Need: To enhance initial entry training (IET) and Drill Sergeant training strategies and to identify issues impacting the transformation of civilian volunteers into operationally capable Soldiers.

Transforming IET Leaders and Soldiers Factors affecting AIT Platoon Sergeant performance o DCG-IMT asked that we examine adequacy of AIT PSG training, factors limiting PSG performance and ways to overcome, and AIT PSG best practices Employing Mobile Learning Technology in Patriot Battery AIT o Developing, administering instruments and analyzing results for two MOS CSDA pilot test. o TAS that led to more substantive effort Practical Decision Guide for Integrating Digital Apps and Handheld Devices into AIT o Capture lessons learned from Connecting Soldiers to Digital Apps (CSDA) Pilots o Initial coordination with Forts Bliss, Leonard Wood, Sill, and Lee o Working with ARCIC, FFID, TRAC-WSMR, and CSDA Transition Working Group

Transforming IET Leaders and Soldiers Comparison of Residential and Non-Residential Portions of the Warrant Officer Candidate School o Comprehensive comparison of dL vs. residential WOCS Phase I, including population, student and instructor perceptions and outcomes o Products: Measures to assess/track student proficiencies, recommendations to improve Phase I & II match, better use of networked/dL technologies in face-to-face phases Examination of new marksmanship training strategies o Developing standards for a new course-of-fire in basic training and determining where the course of fire should occur in the marksmanship program of instruction
