Deployment options for Fluid Cache for SAN with VMware March 2015 Dell – Restricted Confidential

Key deployment information for VMware The 2.0.1 release of Dell Fluid Cache for SAN for VMware* replaces all previously released versions for VMware; so all existing Dell Fluid Cache for SAN customers using VMware must upgrade to this release. Dell Fluid Cache for SAN now supports VMware vSphere® with Fibre Channel connectivity for cache enabled LUNs on the Dell Compellent SC8000 SAN It is important to note that Fibre Channel support for VMware vSphere requires dual Fibre Channel HBAs only IF there are Cached and Non-Cached Compellent volumes. Carefully review all the updated hardware configuration requirements Support on Dell blades in a Cache Cluster could be limited due to slot availability. Be sure to become familiar with the blade configurations. *The VMWare vSphere SR-IOV feature is a requirement for Fluid Cache for SAN on VMware. This feature is only available in the vSphere Enterprise Plus version.

Dell Virtual Appliance Scenario 1 All iSCSI VM NOTE: Cached and uncached volumes use iSCSI interfaces. PCIE slots required (3) PCIe Extender RoCE NIC iSCSI NIC Guest VM Dell Virtual Appliance Guest VM 2.0.1 VMware Fluid Cache iSCSI initiator VMFS vswitch iSER PCIe SSD RoCE NIC Hypervisor VF PCIe SSD 10GE Cache Network = PCI pass-through = iSCSI = Fibre Channel Dell Compellent Array B A C

Dell Virtual Appliance Scenario 2 Uncached (Fibre Channel) – Cached (iSCSI) VM NOTE: Cached volumes use iSCSI interface uncached volumes use FC HBA. PCIE slots required (4) PCIe Extender RoCE NIC iSCSI NIC FC-HBA Guest VM Dell Virtual Appliance Guest VM 2.0.1 VMware Fluid Cache iSCSI initiator VMFS vswitch iSER PCIe SSD Hypervisor RoCE NIC VF PCIe SSD iSCSI -NIC FC-HBA Cache Network = PCI pass-through = iSCSI = Fibre Channel CML Array B A C

Dell Virtual Appliance Scenario 3 – All Fibre Channel (FC) VM NOTE: Cached and uncached volumes use separate FC HBA’s. PCIE slots required (4) PCIe Extender RoCE NIC FC-HBA x 2 Guest VM Dell Virtual Appliance Guest VM 2.0.1 VMware Fluid Cache FC driver VMFS iSER PCIe SSD Hypervisor RoCE NIC VF PCIe SSD FC-HBA FC-HBA Cache Network = PCI pass-through = iSCSI = Fibre Channel CML Array B A C

Dell Virtual Appliance Scenario 4 – unCached (iSCSI) – cached (FC) VM Cached volumes use FC uncached volumes use iSCSI. PCIE slots required (3/4) PCIe Extender RoCE NIC FC-HBA iSCSI NIC/onboard 10GE port Guest VM Dell Virtual Appliance Guest VM 2.0.1 VMware Fluid Cache FC driver VMFS iSER PCIe SSD Hypervisor RoCE NIC VF PCIe SSD FC-HBA iSCSI -NIC Cache Network = PCI pass-through = iSCSI = Fibre Channel CML Array B A C

Dell Virtual Appliance Scenario 5 (FC-Blades)– Cached Volumes only VM NOTE: In this scenario the ESXi nodes are booted off the internal SD card and there needs to be a local datastore configured on the ESX hosts using iSCSI or NFS over onboard NICs or on one of the SSD’s. All volumes from the CML NEED to be cached (64 limit) PCIE slots required (2) RoCE NIC FC-HBA Guest VM Dell Virtual Appliance Guest VM 2.0.1 VMware Fluid Cache FC driver VMFS PCIe SSD Local DS iSER 10ge embedded NIC Hypervisor RoCE NIC VF PCIe SSD FC-HBA iSCSI or NFS Cache Network “Local” Datastore = PCI pass-through = iSCSI = Fibre Channel CML Array B A C

Fluid Cache deployment requirements Scenarios ********** Uncached and cached Cache network Uncached volumes Cached volumes Cache Media **********Extender is needed for Rack servers Blades Local datastore Minimum PCIe slots required for racks ************* May be able to use onboard 10GE for iSCSI Minimum PCIe slots required for blades ************** No extender 1: All iSCSI RoCE (1) iSCSI(1) iSCSI Extender (1) CML-iSCSI NFS/SSD 3 2 2: FC/iSCSI FC (1) CML-FC 3: All FC SSD N/A 4: iSCSI/FC 5: FC cached only None Additional Notes Scenarios 1 and 2 already supported R630 has a CPU configuration that only has 2x PCIe slots available which we CANNOT support You always need a local datastore, for the VSA, PERC(rack only) or iSCSI or NFS. You could use one of the PCIe SSDs. It is likely customers will want to use a dedicated 10GbE NIC for iSCSI For this 2.0.1 release we will be focusing on the VSA in a single fabric (iSCSI or FC)

Thank you Dell – Restricted Confidential

Additional configurations Dell – Restricted Confidential

Dell Virtual Appliance Scenario 6 –FC AND iSCSI A possible but an unlikely customer configuration VM NOTE: Cached volumes use iSCSI interface uncached volumes use FC HBA. PCIE slots required (5) PCIe Extender RoCE NIC iSCSI NIC FC-HBA x 2 Guest VM Dell Virtual Appliance Guest VM FC driver 2.0.1 VMware Fluid Cache iSCSI initiator VMFS vswitch iSER PCIe SSD Hypervisor RoCE NIC VF PCIe SSD iSCSI -NIC FC-HBA FC-HBA Cache Network = PCI pass-through = iSCSI = Fibre Channel CML Array B A C
