Greek utilization of the column. (570 B.C.E) Romans improve on the Greek idea of the arch. (600 B.C.E.) Greek idealized sculptures. (450 B.C.E.) The Romans contrasted Greek sculpture style with their accurate sculptures. (200 B.C.E.) Byzantine art incorporated Roman sculpture techniques. (526 C.E) Byzantine architects heavily utilized the dome which is reflected in the Hagia Sophia. (527 C.E.) 1.) Greeks expand their architectural styles by utilizing the use of the column in building, especially in structures in which government affairs occurred. The Greeks also idealized sculptures. 2.)The Romans adopted Greek developments and built upon them in their own architectural designs and art. The Romans adopted the column and adapted it to create the arch. They also studied their art and sculpture, but contrasted their sculpting style by being more accurate and precise. 3.) As the Byzantine empire prospered, they adopted Roman sculpting techniques and adopted used them in their own works of art. The Byzantines also utilized the dome and proceeded to use it in their architecture, particularly in deeply important structures. One example of this may be the Hagia Sophia. Annotations: Art and architecture have greatly affected the greatness of a people, the Greeks utilized the arch and built the Pantheon and also used idealized forms in their art, the Romans used the arch and dome and created the Parthenon and used life like forms in their art, the Byzantines also used the dome and arch and created Hagia Sophia while also maintaining Rome's use of realistic forms.
