Section 4.1: Regimes Horizontal flow Vertical flow Back Next

Section 4.1.1: Vertical flow 10 0,1 0,01 1,0 100 0,001 Dispersed bubble (small) Dispersed bubble (medium) Churn Annular Slug Back Next

Slug flow Liquid flow at low to mediocre velocity and mediocre velocity for gas flow. Slug flow is characterized with large bullet shaped Taylor bubbles and small bubbles flowing in-between. Back Next

Churn flow Liquid flow at low to mediocre velocity and high velocity for gas flow. Churn flow is characterized with large thin bubbles and small bubbles flowing in-between. Back Next

Dispersed bubble flow (DB) This phenomena is divided into two: Dispersed bubble flow (small) – characterized by small size bubbles, high liquid flow velocity and low to high gas flow velocity. Dispersed bubble flow (medium) - characterized by medium size bubbles, low to mediocre liquid flow velocity and low to mediocre gas flow velocity. Back Next

Annular flow Gas flow at very high velocity and low to very high velocity for liquid flow. Annular flow is characterized with a layer of liquid on the walls of the pipe and small bubbles of liquid in the middle gas zone. Back Next

Section 4.1.2: Horizontal flow 10 0,1 1,0 100 0,01 Dispersed bubble (DB) Elongated bubble flow (EB/I) Slug flow (I) Annular – annular wavy – annular mist flow Stratified wavy flow (SW) Stratified smooth flow (SS) Back Next

Stratified smooth flow Flow at very low velocity, for both gas and liquid. Stratified smooth flow is characterized with a clear distinguished line between gas and liquid. Press button to see animation Back Next

Press button to see animation Stratified wavy flow Low liquid velocity and mediocre gas velocity. Since gas velocity is slightly higher then the liquid velocity, its causing the liquid flow to create waves. This characterize stratified wavy flow. Press button to see animation Back Next

Press button to see animation Elongated bubble flow Mediocre liquid flow velocity and low das flow velocity. Characterized by large bubbles in the upper zone of the liquid phase. Press button to see animation Back Next

Press button to see animation Slug flow Slug flow is an example of a flow regime in between. Both gas and liquid velocities are mediocre. Slug flow is representing both separation and mixing. Slug flow is consequently referred to as an intermittent flow regime. Characterized with big bubble of gas followed by a number of small bubbles. Press button to see animation Back Next

Press button to see animation Dispersed bubble flow Very high liquid velocity, and the gas velocity can vary from very low to very high. Characterized by small bubbles of gas moving mostly in the upper zone of the liquid. Press button to see animation Back Next

Annular flow Very high gas velocity, and the liquid velocity can vary from very low to very high. Characterized by a thin layer of liquid along the walls of the pipe, with bubbles of liquid moving in the middle gas zone. Back Next
