Belief systems of the World Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Shinto, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Taoism and Sikhism

Buddihism Buddhism was originated in northeastern subcontinent of the Indian subcontinent. Buddhism was founded by Buddha, or the enlightened one. Major rituals and beliefs includes meditation, eight fold path, karma, reincarnation Lotus Sutra is the holy book of Buddhism. However, it is also considered that there is no holy book of Buddhism. Buddhist worship at their temple.

Christianity Christianity originated in Palestine. Jesus of Nazareth is the founder of Christianity. Rituals beliefs going to church every Sunday, reading the holy book, singing. Major beliefs includes the God as the Father and the creator, Jesus is his son and rebirth of Jesus. Different belief may exist due to different version of Christianity. The Holy Bible is the main religious book. Church is the place of worship. Throughout the world, Christianity is spread. From Europe to America, through Asia and in Africa, Christianity is available. It is the largest practiced religion in the world.

Confucianism It was originated in Shangtung Province in China. Confucius was the founder of Confucianism. Five relationship, strong government, importance of government, respect for parents, friends, elderly, etc. The Analects written by his followers. Ceremonial Behavior is a ritual. Confucianism is practiced in China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Vietnam and Chinese territories‘.

Shinto It is originated in Japan. It is a polytheistic religion; no founder. Tradition, love of nature, family relationship, physical cleanliness. Shinto text, consist history and beliefs. It is mostly practiced in Japan.

Hindusim It was originated in modern day India. It is polytheistic religion; no founder. Karma, or good deeds, dharma, duty, reincarnations are some of the beliefs. Going to the temple and pray to the gods are main rituals. There is no holy text book but Vedas Scripture or knowledge of spiritual domain can be read. Mandir, the temple is the place of worship. Hinduism is mostly practiced in India. It is their major reigion. Also, in Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Hinduism is practiced.

Islam It was originated in Mecca in modern day Saudi Arabia. It was founded by the prophet Muhammad. Major rituals includes going to the mosque to pray five times a day, sacrificing animal, fasting etc. Major beliefs includes there is no god than Allah and Mohammed is our prophet, human will be judged in their after life etc. Islam is mostly practiced in Middle East, throughout Asia, such as in Pakistan, Bangladesh, India. Also, there are Muslim in Europe and in the United States as immigrants.

Judaism Judaism was originated in Israel in the Middle East. Prophet Abraham is the founder of this monotheistic religion. Some of the beliefs includes believing in the creator, the god, believing in prophet, having faith etc. Major rituals includes reading Torah, praying three times a day, reading some benedicts, weekly Sabbath, the festival etc. Torah is the holy book. Synagogue is the place of worship where is holy book Torah is kept to recite. Israel is known for Jewish population. However, throughout the world, like in USA, France, Canada, Britain, Judaism is still practiced.

Taoism It was originated in China. It was founded by Lao-tzu, a philosopher in China, the same time as Confucius. Major beliefs includes weak government, harmony with nature, no action to make a difference, simple life, be kind etc. Tao Te Ching is considered the holy text book for Taoism. There is no major worship of place for this religion. Taoism is mostly practiced in China and other Chinese territories.

Sikhism It was orignited in the region of Punjab, in between the border of Pakistan and India. It was originated by guru Nanak. Reincarnation, social class, caste system, good deeds are some of the beliefs of this religion. Some rituals includes praying, prohibited from worshipping any idols, icons, have long hair (never cut), comb, short pants, metal bracelets and ceremonial dagger described in the Five K’s. There is no holy text. However, scripture were written with philosophy and beliefs to study. Sikhism is mostly practiced in Punjab, in both Indian and Pakistan section. It has spread as Sikh people went to European country as immigrants.
