The Yemen Revolution Kevin Ramos US/VA Pd3

Location & Map Location & Map Yemen is west of Oman, North of the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian sea, east of the Red sea, and south of Saudia Arabia.

A Corrupt Regime A Corrupt Regime The Leader President Ali Abdullah Saleh is the first leader of Yeman (even though he did not even complete elementary school. And After 32 years of being president), a huge upriseing of protesters have been demanding for a new leader since he has not changed the Government much as before his leadership. These are his last yearsof presidency, he will not seek to be reelected in 2013 He is 68 years old, born on march 21, 1942, in the town of Cameno.

Depression And Unemployment Because there has been little change in the past 32 years, the country is still very poor, in the Arabian peninsula, there are very few beggars, but there are many in yeman. The swarm cars at intersections and scramble at resturants to grab left overs before the waiters can pick up the plates. "If you're a young Yemeni, you don't have any reason for hope," says Nadia al-Sakkaf, editor of the English- language Yemen Times. 74% of the population is under 30 years old, if you are older than it then you are most likely ready to die.

Protesters Protesters Abdel-Hadi al-Azazi is one of the several protest leaders, the biggest act of protest has been on June Saleh was injured in an RPG attack on his presidential compound, which killed four body guards and injured the prime minister, deputy prime minister, and the governor of Sanaa. Saleh, was burned and left the country for treatment. Civilians are in hiding in the Yemeni capital as protesters and government forces struggle for control on the streets of Sanaa. “We can't leave our houses to get food for our children. As soon as we walk on the street we are shot,” says Rami al-Shaibani, a Sanaa resident.

Simalarites To The Revolutionary war The Yemeni were tired of a long term leader that has done nothing for them, and with a tyrant leader that has been abuseing human rights and been corrupt, there has been protesters that have died because of the tyrant leaders orders, even though there intention were peaceful Just like in the American Revolution, the king of Britain was a tyrant that did not care about the colonist and abused his powers on them and killed many protesters, even though there intention were peaceful

Differences To The Revolutionary War The differences are that colonist was being ruled by a king, which could not be overruled. And he was in a different country, while the colonist broke free they formed a new country by breaking free from being Great Britain’s territory. While in Yemen, they have a president which can be overruled (which he will not run for the 2013 election), also they are in the same country and will not have to make a new country with a new government, just perfect it.

My Thoughts My Thoughts I feel that the Yemeni will be excited for a new president. But I know that the country will not get better with just a snap of his/her fingers. I feel that it will take a very long time and with more than one ruler. I also believe that the yemen president will not be a life long ruler, but a lot shorter. Finally I believe that the Yemeni will be very scared for there next step, and it will be a very important one, they will need help by looking into the history of past great empires and dynasties and rulers.
