Salary Special Agent trainees at the FBI Academy are paid as GS-10, step 1 ($43,441) plus the Quantico, VA locality adjustment (17.50%) during their time at the FBI Academy. This equates to $51,043 on an annualized basis (or $1,963 per each two-week pay period).

Responsibilities As an FBI Special Agent you may work on matters including terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, cyber crime, organized crime, white-collar crime, public corruption, civil rights violations, financial crime, bribery, bank robbery, extortion, kidnapping, air piracy, interstate criminal activity, fugitive and drug-trafficking matters, and other violations of federal statutes.

Education requirements Bachelor's Degree, and for some positions a Master's Degree with a strong academic record, preferably with a GPA of 3.0 or better, and three years of professional work experience.

Interesting facts Nearly 18 million background checks are conducted each year through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System to determine purchase eligibility for firearms and explosives. Female Agents Were Rare Until 1972. During fiscal year 2012, the FBI’s Computer Analysis Response Team (CART) examined 53,931 pieces of media. CART examined more than 17,000 terabytes of data while supporting more than 9,700 investigations.
