Compare and Order Money Amounts You can use a place value chart to compare money amounts. Start at left. Look for the first place where the digits are different. Example: Compare $306.97 and $319.23 The amount $319.23 has more ten dollars than $306.97 So, $319.23 > $306.97 Hundred Dollars Ten Dollars One Dollar Cents 3 6 97 1 9 23 Same different CONFIDENTIAL

Try This! Use place value chart to compare the amounts. Write >, <, or =. Compare $542.75 and $547.25 < CONFIDENTIAL

Compare and Order Money Amounts You can also compare and order the same way you do for whole numbers Step 1: Line up the decimal points. Compare the three amounts. Step 2: Compare the remaining two amounts. Step 3: Write the money amounts in order from least to greatest. Example: Compare and order from least to greatest: $7.13, $6.95, $6.89 Step 1: $7.13 $6.95 $6.89 7>6, so $7.13 is the greatest number. Step 2: 8<9, so $6.89 is less than $6.95 Step 3: CONFIDENTIAL

Try This! Order from greatest to least: $0.98, $0.86, $0.99 $0.99, $0.98, $0.86 CONFIDENTIAL

Round Money You round money the same way you do with whole numbers Step 1: Find the digit in the dollars place. Step 2: Look at the place to the right of the dollars place. Step 3: If the digit is less than 5, round down. If the digit is 5 or greater, round up. Example: Round $7.13, $6.89, $6.95 Step 1: $7.13 $6.89 $6.95 Step 2: Step 3: $7.13 $7.00 $6.89 $7.00 $6.95 $7.00 CONFIDENTIAL

Try This! Round $674 to the nearest ten $670 CONFIDENTIAL
