CONFIDENTIAL1 Good Afternoon! Today we will be learning about Calendar and Years Let’s warm up : Complete the conversion tables: Hours478 Minutes 1) Calculate how much time has elapsed between: 2) 5:05 A.M. and 10:10 A.M.? 3) 2:20 P.M. and 5:40 P.M.? 4) 9:40 P.M. and 2:25 A.M.?

CONFIDENTIAL2 Let’s review the previous topic Elapsed Time  A.M.: A name for time between 12:00 midnight and 12:00 noon. On school days you might wake up at 7:00 A.M.  P.M.: A name for time between 12:00 noon and 12:00 midnight. Many people eat dinner at 6:00 P.M. A day has 24 hours. These 24 hours is divided into two time zones. These are “A.M.” and “P.M.”. The standard unit of time is second.

CONFIDENTIAL3 Review Time Facts 60 seconds1 minute 15 minutes1 quarter-hour 60 minutes1 hour 90 minutes1 ½ hours 180 minutes3 hours The simple conversion table for time is: To convert from minutes to seconds multiply by 60 and to convert from seconds to minutes divide by 60. Similarly, To convert from hours to minute multiply by 60 and to convert from minute to hours divide by 60.

CONFIDENTIAL4 Review 9:15 A.M.  Nine-fifteen in the morning, or  Quarter after nine, or  Fifteen minutes after nine 4:25 P.M.  Four twenty-five in the afternoon, or  25 minutes after 4 Tell Time

CONFIDENTIAL5 Review 45 minutes (min) = ¾ hour (3/4 h) or 3 quarter hours 60 minutes (min) = 1 hour (1 h) or 4 quarter hours Tell Time

CONFIDENTIAL6 Review Elapsed Time: It is the amount of time that passes from the start to the end of an activity. How much time has elapsed between 8:20 A.M. and 11:35 A.M.? Step 1: First count the number of hours. From 8:20 to 11:20 is 3 hours. Step 2: Then count the number of minutes. From 11:20 to 11:35 is 15 minutes. So, 3 hours 15 minutes has passed.

CONFIDENTIAL7 Review Count past midnight What time is 4 hours 20 minutes after 11.00 p.m.? Start at 11.00 p.m. Count on 4 hours. 11.00 -> 12.00 -> 1.00 -> 2.00 -> 3.00 Add on 20 minutes: 3.20 a.m. (Note: After 12.00 midnight write A.M.) So, 4 hours 20 minutes after 11.00 p.m. is 3.20 a.m.
