Energy for Life

Metabolism The total of all the chemical reactions in an organism

The role of enzymes The chemical reaction of metabolism needs enzymes

Photosynthesis Plants and many other producers convert light energy into another kind of energy--- chemical energy Producers take light energy to make sugars which they can use as food

Why are you so green? Producers that use photosynthesis are usually green because they contain a green pigment we call chlorophyll Remember, we found them in the chloroplasts

Respiration Chemical reactions that occur that break down food molecules into simpler substances and release their stored energy

Respiration

Fermentation Releasing some of the energy stored in glucose molecules
