This packet will help you prepare for your audition. If you are struggling with any of these songs, please come ask for help. We are available every morning before school beginning at 7:15 and most days after school until 4:00p. Auditions are Thursday and Friday January 7 th and 8 th before school beginning at 7:15 until the first bell. If you cannot audition then, please come after school on Thursday or Friday or during specials on Friday. We will provide all music at your audition and you will be scored on each portion of the audition. Check our website for practice The audition sections are: Category3 rd Grade Points4 th /5 th Grade Points Perform Steady Beat while teacher sings 20 pts 10 pts Echo sing25 pts15 pts Perform Song on Xylophone 25 pts20 pts Perform drum part while teacher sings 25 pts20 pts Perform Starlight, Starbright on recorder 3 rd grade WILL NOT PLAY RECORDER 30 pts Completed permission slip 5 pts You will echo sing a song of your teacher’s choosing the day of the audition. You will perform steady beat on the small percussion instrument of your teacher’s choosing the day of the audition. Xylophone, drum, and recorder music have been provided for you to practice. BE PREPARED! Complete permission slip is worth credit. We will not audition you without a permission slip. Partially filled out slips will result in minus 5 points. Read the permission slip carefully and fill it out completely.

Want to make a wish This part will be played on the tubano drum. Practice alternating hands on the takadimi. You can begin with your right hand (R) or left hand (L) and alternate the other hand after. I wrote the drumming options for you below the text. These will all be played on the rim of the drum. 4 th and 5 th grade you will need to learn this song for your audition. Do the best you can with the low F. 4 th grade do the best you can with Low D. We will listen for tone quality, tonguing, and rhythm accuracy. Remember, slow, gentle, warm air. WE ARE NOT LISTENING FOR SPEED!!!
