Hero & Intel Teachers School Board Spotlight January 2011

The Mission of Hero Teachers We are promoting the county’s Heroes for Zeroes mission this year – Zero unexcused absences – Zero classrooms without rigor – Zero employees without positive & collaborative attitudes – Zero suspensions/expulsions

Our Mission… Hero teachers are in the schools modeling these behaviors to others. We are striving to be positive and collaborative in our respective environments- not only among our colleagues but also modeling and teaching our students these same things.

What we’ve done so far… At our meetings we have discussed several things: – How to help implement the Heroes for Zeroes mission – Ways to collaborate within our buildings – The decision to embed the INTEL model during staff development – What 21 st century skill to focus on and how to ensure our students are 21 st century ready

Getting our Students 21 st Century Ready Heroes have discussed ways to do this: – Focus in on: critical thinking & problem solving – What making our classrooms more rigorous looks like – Practical implementation of technology to enhance and engage students in the learning process

Eyes & Ears The Hero and Intel teachers have also been acting as the “eyes and ears” in our schools to gauge how the Heroes for Zeroes process has been going We have brought both the negative and positive feedback from our colleagues to our meetings to discuss ways to improve our mission

Support Heroes are the models and supporters of preparing our students to be 21 st century ready

Engaging our Students A large part of our time has been spent on how t o help teachers practically implement technology into their planning and instruction, here’s why.

Charlotte County Public Schools Intel Teach Program Goals: -Teachers will collaborate with other teachers and discuss ideas for both introducing and using technology in the classroom. -Each teacher will leave the course prepared to effectively implement a technology-rich Unit Portfolio that engages students in effective use of technology to achieve standards. END RESULT: Students engaged in standards-aligned, technology-supported projects that promote the use of 21st century skills.

Our Training A week long course was offered at Randolph Henry High School two weeks before school began in August. We worked in cooperative pairs to complete a project-based unit plan that addressed technology, 21 st century skills, as well as the Standards of Learning. The instructor helped us create a strategy for teaching the remaining staff the Intel Teach course.
