Background In The Beginning Terrorism recorded as early as pre-BC times In 14 AD Roman emperors such as Tiberius and Caligula used a technique called Banishment where they expropriate property and execute in order to discourage opposition to their rule around 856 to 1905, numerous presidents, prime ministers, kings and government officials were killed by anarchist’s terrorist attacks with guns and or bombs

Background Today World Trade Center Attack 1995 – Murrah building bombed in OK Suicide bombings War in Iraq

1993 – Feb 26 fundamentalist Muslim extremists blow up a truck bomb in the basement garage of the world trade center in New York April 19, 2 years after WACO disaster a Ryder truck bomb explodes in front of the Alfred P. Murrah federal Building in Oklahoma city killing 168 people. Recent Events 1975 – On Jan 24, four people die and 60 are injured when bomb set by FALN, a Puerto Rican terrorist group, explodes in new york city’s historic fraunces tavern 1976 – Seven Terrorsists skyjack an Air- France jet reroute to Israel and force the plane to land in Entebbe, Uganda; Israel dispatches a commando team, which frees the hostages and kills the terrorist

Recent Events Continued…. - Current level Yellow - Elevated – Significant Risk of Terrorist Attacks - Higher Security and Inspections at crucial spots - Airports, Checkpoints, Border, etc.

Warfare Biological /Chemical Warfare BIOLOGICAL WARFARE - the deliberate spreading of disease amongst humans, animals, and plants CHEMICAL WARFARE - Warfare and associated military operations involving the employment of lethal and incapacitating munitions and agents, typically poisons, contaminants, and irritants.

Warfare Nuclear Warfare –Nuclear weapons cause many deaths and damage material through the effects of blast, thermal radiation, and the nuclear radiation. –The initial temperature of the fireball ranges into millions of degrees. –The blast wave causes the most destruction in a nuclear burst. –The wave travels away from the fireball, acting as a wall of highly compressed air

Warfare Nuclear Warfare -There are three types of bursts: Air burst, ground burst, and Surface burst -Air Burst an explosion in the air, the fireball does not make contact with the ground but causes burns to exposed skin and eyes over a large area -Ground Burst is an explosion on or a little above the ground. -Subsurface Burst an explosion beneath the surface of the land or water. Forms a large crater. If the burst does not make it to the surface the danger hazard will be from ground or water shock, if it makes it to the surface, blast, thermal and initial radiation will arise

Counter Terrorism - Police- Swat - FBI- US Army -Protect citizens from the danger of Terrorism and other threats. -"Terrorists hate America because America is a land of freedom and opportunity" -"We intend to attack the root causes of terrorism." --George W. Bush
