Input methods Input devices are used to get data into a system. Keyboard: if a key is pressed it sends a code to CPU which translate it to ASCII code (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) in binary (0's and 1's that computer understands). A standard keyboard is called QWERTY keyboard. Touch Screen: is a special kind which is sensitive to touch. A selection is made from a menu on the screen by touching part of it. These screens are ideal for use in bank and airport.

Bar Code Reader: are used to read the bar codes on items in a supermarket. Optical Character Reader: is a method of converting scanned text pages to standard ASCII text using special software.

Magnetic Ink Character Readers: are used in reading the bank cheques which contain the account information written in magnetic ink. Optical Mark Readers: are able to sense marks made on a special form in certain places such as TOEFL test form. Scanners are used to scan test or pictures into computer's memory. webcams: are used to capture video images and then tansmitted to a computer. microphone: is used as input device for a speech recognition systems.
