By: Rachel Hopper For: Mr. Rich Broad Based Technology February 13 th, 2013 A computer for Helen Parr

Helen’s Situation Helen needs a new computer to help her with the following; Her business documents Advertising (Photos of her baked goods) Contact with her clients and customers (via facebook, and other social networking sites) Helen would also like a computer that; Works well but isn’t too expensive Her kids can use for social media ( and facebook)

I recommend the Sony VAIO laptop for Helen. This laptop can be found at the Future-Shop. I recommend this laptop for Helen because: It is very lightweight, portable and convenient for Helen to bring in every room of the house. (It has a one year warranty, just in case it drops during these expeditions.) It has an HD webcam and will help Helen take beautiful pictures of her products. With a 750 GB hard drive, it will be able to save tons of Helen’s business documents for years to come. It is a reasonable price but will still last Helen and her family an incredibly long time. Unlike most laptops, this computer not only has b/g/n Wi-Fi, but also has a network jack, resulting in unlimited web surfing for Helen and her children gb-hdd-8gb-ram-windows-8- sve14a25cdw/ aspx?path=6a006c2a5744fb9bb26ef96b66fe6ac6en02 Recommended Computer for Helen

Chip The chip is known as the brain of the computer. The chip is the essential part of the computer. Without a chip, the computer would not function. Quicker chips= quicker computers. It is measured in Hertz (Hz). The VAIO computer has an Intel Core i5-3210M. Helen would benefit from this processor as it is extremely fast and highly rated. Her computer would hardly ever slow down during her important work.

Random Access Memory (RAM) RAM is the component in the computer that holds working information. RAM acts as the "go between" between the Chip and the Hard Disk Drive. It holds the information before it is saved. RAM allows the computer to multitask effectively. It is measured with Giga-Bytes (GB). The VAIO computer has 8GB of RAM. This computer is great for Helen as she would often have to multitask between various programs and the RAM would help speed up her work on the computer.

Data Storage HDD stores everything that is saved and opened after a power on. HDD is often slow at saving information. SDD does basically the same thing, but usually has less data storage since it is smaller and lighter. Data Storage is measured in Giga-Bytes (GB). This computer is stored with HDD and has 750 GB of storage. This is great for Helen as she has lots of documents and work to save onto her computer. This Hard Drive will assist her greatly with her small business. Two Types: SDD and HDD. Each of these types stores information onto a computer. “Memory of the computer.” HDD stores information by rotations. The SDD has no moving parts.

DVD DVD plays disks inserted in a computer. DVD +/- RW (Plays two types of files DVD + R and – R and Burns DVDs) This computer comes with a DVD SuperMulti Drive (DVD +/- RW). This feature is great for Helen as her children can watch tons of movies (no matter what type of DVD) and she can burn presentations and work onto her own DVDs.

Network Network is the connection from a computer to the internet. There are two types: A network jack and WIFI. WIFI is wireless internet, and connects wirelessly to a router. Network Jacks connect to cables and are not portable. WIFI is measured using b/g/n. The VAIO computer has a network jack and b/g/n for WIFI. This is great for Helen because her home might not necessarily have WIFI so the Network Jack is another alternative that might be more effective.

Some other things that this computer includes are: Windows 8 A backlit keyboard 14” Display Webcam Helen would want these features for: Capturing and sharing her baked goods (webcam) To help her rapidly decreasing eye sight and so she can use her computer at night.(Backlit keyboard) To keep up with recent programs for her business (Windows 8) A good sized computer (Not too big or small) (14” display) Other Things

Price The price of this item is $ (not including tax) Helen would like this price because it isn’t very expensive. This computer is truly going to make the most out of Helen’s money.
