EIE-05/073/SI , 01/2006 – 02/ /06/2006 / Slide 1 Promoting the use of biomass from agricultural and forestry sector for heating, electricity and transportation purposes – AGRIFORENERGY EIE-05/073/SI

EIE-05/073/SI , 01/2006 – 02/ /06/2006 / Slide 2 Project Summary  The main aim of the project is to integrate the agricultural and forestry sector into the energy market not only as raw material supplier but also as supplier of energy services.  It is proposed by the Styrian Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry (Austria) and partners from Italy, Romania, Slovak Republic and Slovenia.  The project will generate the following outputs:  Best practice booklets  Training courses, workshops, study tours  Regional bioenergy coordinators  Specific dissemination activities

EIE-05/073/SI , 01/2006 – 02/ /06/2006 / Slide 3 Background  One of the most important barriers for the development of a strong bioenergy market in Europe is the lacking engagement of the agricultural and forestry sector, which is why the existing high biomass potentials could not be mobilised till now.  To overcome that barrier the following problems are addressed by the project:  Small structure of forestry estates – lack of cooperation  Lack of know-how among farmers and forest owners concerning  The production and supply of biomass fuels  The offering of bioenergy services  Lack of national or regional support schemes for the agricultural and forestry sector (in some countries)  Legal measures and financial support schemes  Activities of advisory services for farmers and forest owners

EIE-05/073/SI , 01/2006 – 02/ /06/2006 / Slide 4 Objectives  To mobilise the large biomass potential from private owned forests and from agricultural land by increasing the cooperation among farmers and forest owners  To stimulate local and trans-national exchange of experiences and know-how transfer  To integrate the agricultural and forestry sector into the energy market not only as biomass supplier but also as supplier of energy services in the sectors:  Heat  Electricity  Transportation fuels

EIE-05/073/SI , 01/2006 – 02/ /06/2006 / Slide 5 Expected results  Best practice booklets  Description of best practice examples  Bioenergy market and involvement of farmers and forest owners  Experiences to promote the use of bioenergy among farmers and forest owners  Experiences of farmers and forest owners as biomass suppliers  Successful models to promote the farmer and forest owner not only as raw material supplier but also as energy supplier  Dissemination of best practice booklets  Training Courses  Workshops  Study tours  Regional bioenergy coordinators as a link between farmers/forest owners, customers and professional advisory services  Specific dissemination activities.
