A SEMINAR ON PRACTICAL TRAINING AT SURATGARH SUPER THERMAL POWER STATION

introduction A Thermal Power Plant converts the heat energy of coal into electrical energy. Coal is burnt in a boiler which converts water into steam. The expansion of steam in turbine produces mechanical power which drives the alternator coupled to the turbine. SSTPS have 6 units each 250mw and 2 units have 660mw which is under construction. In thermal generating stations coal, oil, natural gas etc. are employed as primary sources of energy.

BOILER 1. Boiler is a most important part of power plant which is produce high pressure steam to generate electricity 2. Boiler is also termed as,”steam generator”.

BOILER

SSTPS BOILER

turbine Turbine is rotary engine that converts the energy of moving steam of water steam and gas into mechanical energy. The basic component in turbine are wheel or rotor. Different plant we use different turbine but a steam turbine is use in coal base SSTPS plant. Kinetic Energy Mechanical energy

turbine layout

GENERATOR The Synchronous Generator is used to Generate power by connecting the shaft of the Turbine to the shaft of the generator which cuts the magnetic flux producing Emf. The Generated Voltage will generally 16.5 KV, 50 Hz, Amps The Generated Voltage is stepped up by connecting Step up transformer and is transmitted and is also used for Auxiliary purposes. Bus Duct Generator Transformer 16.5 kv/220kV 315MVA TRANS. SYNCHRONOUS GENERATOR UAT 16.5 kv/6.6 kv 50 MVA TRANS Unit Auxiliary Transformer: This transformer is used to step down the produced voltage and use for Auxiliary purpose. Mechanical power Electrical Energy

CONDENSER To provide lowest economic heat rejection temperature for the steam. Thus saving on steam required per unit of electricity. To convert exhaust steam to water for reuse thus saving on feed water requirement.

COLLING TOWER In SSTPS circulating water system is use for Cooling all equipment and other machine. Its purpose is to re use of the water. Its increase the efficiency of plant.. Water cooling also used for any kind of fire.

ASH HANDLING PLANT The Ash from the boiler is collected in two forms: 1.Bottom Ash(Slurry):It’s a waste which is dumped into a Ash Pond 2.Fly ash: Fly ash is separated from Flue Gases in ESP(Electro static Precipitator). Fly Ash & Flue Gases Economize r ESP Bottom ash(wet ash) Ash Pond Boiler silo Cement Factory Chimney Fly ash Flue Gases
