Miss Maudie’s Azaleas The azalea is a flower known for its hardy nature and being able to grow in shade or bad soil conditions. Why might the azalea be used to symbolize Miss Maudie? Miss Maudie is opinionated a tough woman not easily controlled/makes up her own mind cheerful even though surrounded by hypocrisy and prejudice

Mrs. Dubose’s Camellias A camellia is a deep rooted flower that grows quickly. What might the camellia symbolize in TKAM? prejudice Prejudice is deep rooted and cannot be dealt with simply. *Jem chops off the tops of Mrs. Dubose’s camellias, but they grow back quickly.

Mayella’s Red Geraniums Why might red geraniums be associated with someone like Mayella Ewell? The geraniums are something beautiful in a dump. There is the possibility of beauty and goodness amidst evil. Where do we see this in TKAM?
