Progress Monitoring & Compliance Check) –BiH has a status of potential candidate country, key milestone in accession process, signed the SAA in June 2008 –Country Strategy for implementation of the acquis chapter for the environment – future challenge of the accession process –Preparation of sectorial strategies for environmental infrastructure investment programmes started –IPA – 2008 Project: “Strengthening the BiH Environmental Institutions, preparation for pre-accession found” support Envir. 5 Construction of Regional Landfill in BiH –First phase of construction sanitary landfills in BiH through WB loan, 2002 – 2008 included: Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Zenica, Tuzla, Bihać, Bijeljina -Second phase of WB loan will start from 2009 to 2014 include construction of new regional landfills: in FBiH: Mostar, Goražde, Zenica,Livno in RS : Prijedor, Zvornik, Derventa, Doboj –Tešanj, Trebinje -EC CARDS 2006, Rehabilitation of Trebinje and Kneževo dumpsite - EU Technical Assistance trough IPA – 2008, Component II Preparation of feasibility study for selection of regional sanitary landfills in Bosnia and Hercegovina

6 Climate Change –BiH ratified UN Climate Change Conventions (UNFCCC) 20 th July 2000 (Official gazete B&H No. 19/00), and –Kyoto Protocol, 22 nd April 2008,( Official gazete B&H No. 03/08) as a Non Anex I Party, –In cooperation with UNDP organised compilation of the Initial National Communication and will be completed by the end of 2009 –Establishing of DNA for CDM Projects, supported by Delegation of EC, will be completed in February 2009 PROJECTS: –Capacity building in developing countries to participate in the CDM is usaully supported by UNDP –Through the MDG-F project, UNDP initiated in BiH a project “Development of CDM institutional and legal framework” which will help government to create favorable conditions for development and approval of CDM projects

7 Climate Change ACTIVITIES: -Many workshops and training organized for experts in this field -Provided intersectorial cooperation, especially with sections of sources of energy, forestry, agriculture and water management -On the meeting 27 th December, 2007 a new implementation methodology of project was accepted -Project Steering Committee was established and detailed work plan for implementation prepared -Selected Team Leader of project, office staff, as well as Team Leaders for: The Greenhouse Gas inventories, Mitigation and Vulnerability and Adaption components GEF Projects: -Promoting energy efficiency in buildings -BiH biomass energy for employment and energy security project EC Projects: _ Support to implementation of the “Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control” (IPPC) Directive _ EC Project “ Assessment of institutional and legal readiness for implementation of measures eligible under Kyoto Protocol in BiH”
