Unit Specifications UnitFashion/Textile Item Development Outcome 1Plan the making of straightforward fashion/ textile items using paper patterns by: Assessment Standards 1.1 Developing a solution to satisfy design specification points within a given brief. 1.2 Producing a work plan with a logical work sequence and a requisition for appropriate textiles, equipment and tools

Unit Specifications Evidence Requirements for this Unit:  Assessors should use their professional judgement, subject knowledge and experience, and understanding of their learners, to determine the most appropriate ways to generate evidence and the conditions and contexts in which they are used.  Evidence may be presented for individual outcomes, or it may be gathered for the unit as a whole through integrating assessment in a single assessment event. If the latter approach is used it must be clear how the evidence covers each outcome.

Unit Specifications For Outcome 2 of this Unit learners will be required to provide evidence of:  2.1 Setting up equipment correctly and according to safety guidelines  2.2 Using equipment and tools correctly and according to safety guidelines  2.3 Making the designed fashion/textile item according to the design solution and the plan Evidence may be in the form of written/oral/video/sketches. Evidence for 2.1 and 2.3 may be a checklist.

Unit Assessment Support Packages - purpose UASPs can be used to: Assess your candidates Adapt for your own assessment programmes Help you develop your own assessments Help to ensure that evidence meets the requirements of the Outcomes and Assessment Standards.

UASPs – key features  Valid from August 2013  Designed to encourage professional judgement  Provide broad-based tasks – allow assessors to choose appropriate context and forms of evidence  Show range of approaches to generating assessment evidence  Give information on the type of evidence which could be gathered and how this is to be judged against Assessment Standards

Fashion & Textile Technology UASPs Package 1  Unit by Unit approach N3, N4 and N5 – discrete assessment tasks for each Unit and combining of skills within Units Package 2  Portfolio approach: Combined across Units N3, N4 and N5 Package 3  Combined approach N3, N4 and N5 (Two tasks)

N4 AV Unit: Making a Fashion/Textile Item. To achieve this unit, learners will: 1.Produce a Fashion/Textile item in response to a given brief by: 1.1 Identifying specification points in the brief 1.2 Producing an idea and a plan for the making of a fashion/textile item in response to the brief and addressing the specification points 1.3 Making the fashion/textile item using appropriate textile construction techniqes and safe working practices 1.4 Reviewing the completed and finished fashion/textile item against the brief

N5 Assessment Task  Controlled assessment is SQA’s approach to developing assessments (setting), the conditions of assessment (conducting), and marking assessments (marking).  The practical activity will be internally assessed using marking guidelines issued by SQA  An SQA appointed Team Leader (Verifier) will visit a sample of centres to quality assure the marking of the National 5 Fashion and Textile Technology Course Assessment Task.
