Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Opening Q’s Before we start, I’d like to open the call to questions…It can be a success or personal development question, a question about your own life, a question about coaching, or anything at all!

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Introduction Last week we talked about beyond time management, and one of the points that Mark Forster, makes in his book: Get Everything Done and Still Have Time to Play, is that saying NO can be one of your most important time management techniques Yet, most people have a lot of trouble with this little two letter word. Why? Today we’ll talk about how to master NO in our lives!

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Opening Discussion When is the last time you said no to someone? How comfortable were you doing it? Why is it so challenging for us to say no?

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Reasons No is Hard We want to be seen as “nice” We don’t want to “hurt someone’s feelings” We genuinely want to be helpful We are taught to be accommodating It may be challenging to say no, we may not know how to do it Are there other reasons we haven’t covered yet?

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Why No is Important We are all surrounded by people that have requests of us There is no way to satisfy all the people and take care of ourselves as well (bit of a trick statement) No is as important as yes in honoring ourselves

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Discussion Why does “no” get such a bad rap? What can we say is great about “No”?

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Saying No Like a Pro State no simply and unemotionally Be ready to repeat your no Don’t give an excuse Give a general reason, such as it doesn’t fit into my priorities Never say yes to anything on the spot, always say I’ll check and get back to you, or please me your request, etc. That gives you time to consider and give the answer you really feel great about

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Discussion What techniques have you used to say no like a pro?

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 The problem of “helping” If someone asks for “help”, only give help if it actually helps them! Usually, your insides tell you clearly if you feel right about “helping” or not Remember, “help” that keeps people stuck is not really help Feel great about having great boundaries, it keeps you and other’s around you healthier!

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Final Discussion Why else is it important to say “no” to inappropriate “helping”? How can you say “no” in such situations? Is there a place in your life you could be saying “no”? How are you going to feel great about “no”?

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Next Session Next session: Tuesday, July 12th This is our coaching techniques call Have a fantastic week!
