Welcome to 7th Grade Science! Clearview Regional Middle School Mr. Kyle Rosa Clearview Regional Middle School Back To School Night 2015

About Mr. Rosa Teaching Experience: High School Bio/Env. Science at Gateway Regional HS (1 year) 7th Grade Science at Clearview MS (3 years) My Education: Graduate of Washington Twp. High School BS Biological Sciences BS Secondary Education MS Biological Sciences

Middle School is GREAT

Life Science 7 Curriculum Unit 1: Introduction to Life Science Unit 2: Cell Structure & Microscopes Unit 3: Cell Processes Unit 4: Viruses & Bacteria Unit 5: Cell Division & Reproduction Unit 6: DNA Unit 7: Genetics/Heredity Unit 8: Evolution Unit 9: Ecology Unit 10: Classification & Animals

Class Structure I utilize multiple instructional methods to teach complex scientific topics: interactive lectures, labs, hands-on partner work, critical readings, lab practical assessments

Lab Activities Your kids will be engaged in real biology laboratory experiences this year.

Grading Policy Each Marking Period: Daily Assignments: Classwork/Homework 25% Minor Assessments: Quizzes and Labs 25% Major Assessments: Tests and Projects 50% The end of each marking period will include a common cumulative assessment (test grade) that will include all of the content from that quarter. This same test will be given by all 7th grade science teachers.

Homework Policy Expect homework 2-4 nights per week. Always posted each day on class website. Checked homework is not accepted late. Collected homework assignments may be submitted late for a penalty of 10 points per day. Science homework will usually be in the form of finishing classwork/lab assignments.

Test/Quiz Policy Tests will be at the end of each unit of study and will consist of multiple choice and critical thinking short answer questions. Quizzes will be in the middle of a unit and will consist of matching, true/false, and/or short answer questions. Quizzes may be announced or unannounced. Students should study their class notes, readings, and worksheets for tests and quizzes.

Science Projects 1st Marking Period: Cell Analogy Project (Common Assessment) There will be at least 2 other in/out of school projects this year (TBA) Previous years’ projects: lab reflection paper, formal lab report, animal trading card, virus/bacteria Christmas tree ornament
