The funding The level of public money available to support Apprenticeships varies for different groups according to government priorities: 16-18 year olds - high priority, full funding is available 19-24 year olds - employer contribution of up to 50%, this contribution may be in-kind 25 years and older - the government contribution is lower and may not be available at all. Loans through the Student Loan Company may be necessary those who are 24 years and older who are studying at Level 3 or above. National Apprenticeship Service

AGE 16 - 24 £1500 Apprenticeship grant for employers with up to 1000 employees New to Apprenticeships and recruiting their first apprentice Payable for recruiting 16 to 24 year olds, to a maximum of 10 payments Available until December 2013 Employers will sign an agreement to confirm: the number of apprentices they will be taking on they wouldn’t have taken the apprentice on without the grant they have not started on an apprentice in the previous 12 months they are aware of and do not breach any state aid rules they will employ the apprentice for the minimum of 12 months they agree to pay the minimum Apprenticeship wage or more National Apprenticeship Service

Things to consider What Apprenticeships and/or other qualifications are currently being delivered across your business? What business areas could benefit from Apprenticeships? Are there specific job roles you would like to support through Apprenticeships? What different levels of Apprenticeship would you like to deliver? Could you use Apprenticeships to solve a problem? What are the demographics of your company and could Apprenticeships help to bring young people into the business? How many apprentices would you like to employ? Apprenticeships Deliver A real job, a real qualification and a real future. - 85% stay in employment - 64% stay with the same employer - 32% of apprentices received a promotion within 12 months of finishing - 75% take on more responsibility - Qualified apprentices are 15% more employable than those with other qualifications. - £100, 000   The training you receive here at this superb facility and with your employer will give you a A real future in Engineering and manufacturing. After finishing, the majority of apprentices (85%) will stay in employment, (1) two-thirds (64%) staying with the same employer. (1) A third (32%) of all former apprentices had received a promotion within 12 months of finishing, and of those in work, (1) Three quarters (75%) reported taking on more responsibility in their job. (1) Employers think that qualified apprentices are 15% more employable than those with other qualifications. (2)  People with an Advanced Level Apprenticeship earn, on average, over £100,000* more than those without, over the course of their career. What is a Traineeship? A new programme that addresses problems raised by employers. Feedback indicates that; To often young people lack the right skills and attitudes. Demonstrate poor job application skills Have little or no experience of seeking or being in work Held back by under developed literacy and/or numeracy skills Lack understand of the behaviours required in the workplace

What is a Traineeship? A Traineeship will be a new opportunity to help young people develop the skills and attitudes employers look for. It will form part of the 16-19 Study Programme framework. They will include; A high quality work placement to give the young person meaningful experience, develop workplace skills, and provide an opportunity to prove themselves to an employer. A focused period of work preparation training. This might focus on areas like CV writing, interview preparation, job search, self-discipline and inter-personal skills. English and maths for young people who have not achieved a GCSE Grade C or equivalent. The flexibility to include other elements such as vocational/industry specific content & qualifications.
