Content: Physical Development Moral and Cognitive Development Social Development Adolescent suicide Conclusion

Physical Development Adolescence - the developmental stage between childhood and adulthood. Puberty- the period at which maturation of sexual organs occurs.

Moral Cognitive Development "Heinz Steals the Drug In Europe, a woman was near death from a special kind of cancer. There was one drug that the doctors thought might save her. It was a form of radium that a druggist in the same town had recently discovered. The drug was expensive to make, but the druggist was charging ten times what the drug cost him to make. He paid $200 for the radium and charged $2,000 for a small dose of the drug. The sick woman's husband, Heinz, went to everyone he knew to borrow the money, but he could only get together about $ 1,000 which is half of what it cost. He told the druggist that his wife was dying and asked him to sell it cheaper or let him pay later. But the druggist said: "No, I discovered the drug and I'm going to make money from it." So Heinz got desperate and broke into the man's store to steal the drug-for his wife. Should the husband have done that? (Kohlberg, 1963)."

Kohlberg’s Theory of Moral development Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development Level One: Pre- conventional Morality Level Two: Conventional Morality Level Three: Post-Conventional Morality

Moral Development in women Men view morality primarily in terms of broad principles such as justice and fairness. Women- see it in terms of responsibility towards individuals and willingness to make sacrifices to help a specific individual within the context of particular relationship. A morality of caring.

Social Development Identity- versus- role – confusion stage -it is the time of major testing to determine one’s unique qualities. Identity- the distinguishing character of the individual Stormy Adolescence: Myth or Reality?

Adolescent Suicide Some statistics: In 2001 The total number of suicide deaths was 30,622. The actual number of suicides is two to three times higher than statistics indicate. It is estimated that 300 to 400 teen suicides occur per year in Los Angeles County alone; equivalent to one teenager lost every day. The ratio of male to female suicides is four to one. However, young women attempt suicide four times more frequently. Every 90 minutes another young person commits suicide.

Conclusion Adolescent is the developmental stage between childhood and adulthood. Every person has to live it through. For some it is easy period of life, for some it is difficult experience.
