English 11B JOURNAL #3: Quixotic Quixotic means to be well-intentioned but a foolishly idealistic dreamer. What does this mean in your own words? What are the pros & cons of this? Read quickwrite on page 688 and discuss.

English 11B Journal #4: “The Best” If it were possible to live in the “best of all possible worlds,” right here on earth, what would such a place be like? What kinds of things would you not find there? If someone told you that we are already living in the “best of all possible worlds,” how would you respond?

English 11B Journal #5: Vocab. in Life Using the vocabulary words from the story Candide, write a paragraph or a conversation in which you use all 7 words correctly. HIGHLIGHT (or circle) the vocabulary word. UNDERLINE the definition or meaning used in the conversation to show you “own” the meaning of the word.

English 11B JOURNAL #10: Characters What is the difference between a static and a dynamic character? Identify a static and a dynamic character from a piece of literature you have read or a movie you have seen. Defend your choices with support from the story line. Make sure that you explain the cause for the change in the dynamic character.

English 11B JOURNAL #11: Marriage Describe some common views of marriage. Do female views seem to differ from male views? Explain. What are the roles of “romance” or “fairy tale” versus “reality” in a marital relationship?

English 11B JOURNAL #12: VOCABULARY ACTIVITY Write a mini-story (more than one paragraph) in which you create a couple of characters and establish a setting and a conflict. Within your writing, correctly use each of the 5 vocabulary clues with context clues. Underline the words and the clues.

English 11B Mini-Sample (one vocab word and context clue) Tom thought he was so charming. With his blond hair and blue eyes and dazzling smile, it was rare that he did not get a positive response from the ladies. He fancied himself suave, smooth with the lines. So the slap across the face from Sara, his latest target, caught him completely off guard.

English 11B BEGIN BLESS ME ULTIMA! The remaining journals pertain to the novel. Follow the instructions given pertaining to the novel.
