Student Journal Entries
The Diary of Anne Frank Student Journal Entries

Journal Entry #1 Identify three concepts or ideas that you learned from the introductory material complete sentences.

Journal Entry #2 If you and your family were forced into hiding, which family would you chose to go with you and why? 5-8 complete sentences.

Journal Entry #3 List three characteristics of Anne’s personality; how do you predict this will influence and affect her relationship with the others in the Annex?

Journal Entry #4 List three characteristics of Peter’s personality; how do these relate to his feelings about himself, the Annex, and his relationship with Anne?

Journal Entry #5 Choose one:
a. Write a detail question that is important to the plot with the answer in complete sentence form. b. Inference – clues, foreshadow. List an example of inference from the play so far, and predict a possible conflict related to it. c. Choose a vocabulary word that is significant to this docudrama and define it. Explain how it is important to the play.

Journal Entry #6 Why do you think Anne is able to confide in her father but not in the others in the Secret Annex? Who do you confide in and why?

Journal Entry #7 In the end of Act I, Anne brings presents for everyone in the Annex. Pretend you are Anne or Peter. Tell of gifts you could make / create for two people you know. (The people do not have to be in the Annex; you are limited by resources you already have.)

Journal Entry #8 Anne and Peter have both changed and matured – personality, family relationships, as students, personal relationships, thought process, etc. – since we first met them in the beginning of the docudrama. Think of yourself at the beginning of 8th grade. How have you matured as a person? No physical description unless it relates to your maturity as a person.

Journal Entry #9 Drama thrives on reversals. Things appear to be going well for the characters, then suddenly things turn out badly, or things look terrible, and suddenly good fortune arrives. Name two examples of reversals from the docudrama. How did it make you feel as you read about the situation? Describe your reaction to the behaviors of the characters.

Journal Entry #10 Explain what the theme of the docudrama is. If you were to be hiding in an Annex like Anne, what would you miss the most and why? What lessons did you learn from this docudrama and why?

Alternate Entry In Scene 3, a new character comes to the Annex. Who is he? What is his occupation? Where do they find room for him? What news does he bring? The residents of the Annex live under stressful conditions. Everyone contributed to the conflicts in some way. In your journal, draw a pie chart showing what you think is a fair division of the responsibility for the conflicts. Explain in 4-6 sentences.
