I’m Swimming Next to an Amoeba!

Protozoans are single-celled organisms that live in water. Let’s look at some examples of different types of protists. What are Protists? The Protist

The Amoeba Characteristics of an amoeba. Clear Has no shape Moves using pseudopods (false feet) Lives in fresh water at bottom

The Amoeba Characteristics of an amoeba. Eats algae, bacteria, other protists, and dead plant or animal matter Is eaten by a zooplankton and other protozoans.

The Paramecium Characteristics of a paramecium. Pale Oval Moves using cilia (hair-like objects surrounding protist) Lives in fresh water

The Paramecium Characteristics of a paramecium. Eats algae, bacteria, other protists, and dead plant or animal matter Eaten by other protists

The Euglena Characteristics of a Euglena. Green Oval Moves using a flagellum (flagella plural) Lives in salt and fresh water

The Euglena Characteristics of a Euglena. Makes its own food (producer) Eaten by fish and other animals living in the water Can also find food and eat it (consumer)
