Prepositional Phrases

Preposition A word that shows the relationship between a noun or a pronoun and another word in a sentence Example: Your ring is on the sink. Your ring is in the sink. Your ring is under the sink. Your ring is behind the sink.

More Examples The gift is for him. The gift is from him. The gift is behind him. The gift is near him. The car is like the truck. The car is by the truck. The car is with the truck. The car is underneath the truck.

Prepositional Phrase Phrases include the preposition, the object of the preposition and all descriptive words (adverbs and adjectives) My aunt rode home in a boat. My aunt rode home in a bright red speed boat.

Multiple Phrases No limit to the number of prepositional phrases in a sentence. The girl lounged in a chair on her boat in the waters of Lake Michigan before she returned to her condo in downtown Chicago. How many prepositional phrases are in the above sentence?
