ECS 3390 University of Texas at Dallas 2 Team Paper Summary In Chapter 20 of Finkelstein’s Pocket Book of Technical Writing you learned that in team writing, members need to determine what has to be done, ascertain what kind of document will be needed, and specify themes and organization. The team must: Designate a leader and provide adequate authority and responsibility Determine what specific resources will be needed and who will procure them Define specific writing responsibilities and schedules Edit and revise inputs for the overall effectiveness of the document Conduct a final review of all aspects of the document and deliver as required Assignment Apply what you’ve learned from Chapter 20 in writing a team research report. Your team will be determined in class. Address a topic or issue of your field of study. You will also need to apply your learning from Chapter 11 on Research Reports. Your Final Team Paper must be at least 6 pages (double-spaced) and must include: The conventional elements of an Internal Report Research and a minimum of five referenced sources Correct grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and style Headings and subheadings to separate sections of the memo, including:  Introduction (including purpose, background, and scope)  Discussion  Conclusion Works Cited in MLA style format and citations Your team’s collective voice (not just what those you have researched have to say) Appropriate design elements. You should include visual aids in the document; however, visual aids will not replace text or count in the six-pages of minimum length. Submission and Deadline One member of your team should submit your completed assignment in WebCT by the date and time specified in the course syllabus.

ECS 3390 University of Texas at Dallas 3 Team Paper Additional Resources In addition to guidelines for team writing and research reports provided in chapters 20 and 11 of Finkelstein’s Pocket Book of Technical Writing, please see notes on plagiarism (pp ) and documenting sources (pp ) in your text. For MLA format, aside from the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (the cover of which is pictured on slide 2), the following are a few of several web- based resources for MLA formatting and citation: References Finkelstein, L.
