The research genre  Documentation  of research  of a single subject/specific problem  in a given field  by means of the theories and methods of the field  with the purpose of convincing  peers  of the accuracy of the results and conclusions of the research  presented in a way that is accepted in the field’s discursive community. The data, material and phenomena of your research: What is the object of your study? 4. The tools of your research: Wich tools do you use when asking your question? Theory, concepts, methods (for collection, analysis and action) 5.Research design: How do you ask your question?

Important in academic work Method:  Explain your choices (and what you choose NOT to do)  If I look at my material in another way I will most likely get a different result.  Show that you see the weaknesses of your analysis. Transparency:  Others should be able to perform your analysis and get the same result.  And your conclusion must be bulletproof. 4

Plagiarism Plagiarism is using someone else's work and presenting it as your own without accurately stating the source. And that is a problem! 6

Plagiarism is not accepted As a student in Danish higher education you are subscribing to an academic tradition which demands transparency, validity and working independently. This means that it is important you quote your sources and provide sufficient documentation as soon as you have used someone else's work. 7

Tips on how to avoid plagiarism:  If you are quoting word-for-word from someone elses’s text remember to place the quotion in quotion marks and state the original source.  The source should be stated accurately enough for your reader to be able to identify it exactly. Check the guidelines for citing sources. 8

 You should be loyal towards your sources and use them accurately and fairly. You must ensure that you present the thought content of your source properly. If you distort a text so that it loses its original meaning or place it in a context which conflicts with the author’s intention, you are beeing unfair towards your source.  The text between the quotations must be your OWN words. 9

Be carefull when  you quote an author, a work or a text  when you refer to an author, a work or a text  when you paraphrase an author, a work or a text  And it MUST be clear why you decide to do so! 10

References References are documentation and substantiation on where you have obtained your knowledge from. You write them in your rumming text: Observation of teenagers’ social networking practices reveals the pleasure they find creating an online ‘project of the self’(Giddens, 1991) 11
